Shirley Young has qualified to run in the August 7th, 2014 General Election for Trustee of Cannon County.

She resides in the Woodland Community with husband, Joe Young, who is a farmer. They have one daughter, Rachel, who is married to Darren Jessup of Woodbury. They attend First Baptist Church, Woodbury.

I want to take this opportunity to relate my qualifications and experience which demonstrate my ability to fulfill the many duties of Trustee, and give the voters a better understanding of its functions.

I will soon have five (5) years of "on the job training" in the Trustee's Office. I was employed in 2009 by former Trustee James Maxwell, and have assisted our present Trustee, Wayne Prater, with the many changes which were implemented in 2010. The most notable being the installation of computerized operations for better efficiency in record keeping, changing from warrant disbursement of funds by departments to the checking system, partial payment option on current year taxes, credit card payment availability, on line look-up and payment option, and changes in submission of tax relief information and applications.

Prior to my employment in the Trustee Office, I also worked for the Election Office under Election Administrator, Mrs. Lynn Bush.

I began working immediately after high school graduation at Colonial Corporation. I continued my education in Office Occupations and was employed by President Bill Smith with the Bank of Commerce. I worked in many areas of the bank. My education and background experience in banking and accounting while there has been a great asset in learning the various accounting procedures required by the Trustee.

In addition to receipting of tax payments, there are numerous duties entrusted to the Trustee. This office is responsible for the accountability and safekeeping of all monies collected from tax payers and all the funds from local, state and federal government, using a local bank as a depository. It is the duty and responsibility of the Trustee to be capable of providing records with all accuracy and honesty, using the accounting procedures set forth by state and local audits and the governing body of Cannon County.

There are daily transfers to vendor and payroll accounts for funds expended by county general, schools, and highway, and reconcilement of all bank accounts. All departments receive monthly reports of all revenue collected and disbursed for dual reconcilement of fund balances.

If elected, my objective as Trustee will be to use the knowledge, skills, abilities and experience I have acquired to ensure all job requirements and services are carried out in an efficient, courteous and professional manner to all the citizens of Cannon County.

I am proud to call Cannon County home and I am grateful for the opportunities I have had to work here.
Your vote and support will be greatly appreciated.
