The United Way's annual pledge drive for charities in Rutherford and Cannon Counties has exactly one week remaining, with the campaign scheduled to end on Valentine’s Day. The United Way's most recent weekly pledge thermometer shows that just over $2.1 million has been pledged, which is about 77 percent of the $2.8 million goal.
As many as 45 local agencies and programs rely on United Way for funding each year and one in three people in Rutherford and Cannon counties have used or benefited from a United Way agency.
Opportunities to contribute to the campaign in its final days include:
• Joining the "Over the Top Club," which recognizes each additional $100 individual donation or more and $250 or more from organizations and civic clubs. Over the Top members are recognized in a rolling list published weekly in The DNJ through the end of February.
• Becoming eligible for the "Chase the Cars" car giveaway by pledging at least $300. Such a gift, either as a lump sum or in increments, qualifies a person for a chance at a drawing to win a choice of one of two automobiles donated by the Alexander Automall.
