POLL: An Annual Af-fair?

I have inquired of a few people and was told there was a fair at one time but it ended. Do any readers recall when the last fair was held, and why it was discontinued?

The carnival was at the fairgrounds (where they are held now). The fair part was held in the gym of the community center. There were contests for vegetables, painting, photography, needlework, etc. It was great! The event was held in late August or early September. I can remember we always got out of school on Wednesday to go to the fair all day! It all ended after a tragedy that resulted in gunfire between the police and a family. One man was killed. Such a sad ending to wonderful memories.

There were also many complaints from the town residents of the noise and the traffic. It was sad that people couldn't enjoy hearing others having fun right there in town for just a week. I remember going and it was a blast! Now we go to Coffee County and spend our money their. The WPD has the FOP carnival, but it just isn't the same and people still complain.
