Tennessee, March 19 - Average retail gasoline prices in Tennessee have risen 4.6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.64/g Sunday.

This compares with the national average that has increased 4.3 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.80/g, according to gasoline price website TennesseeGasPrices.com.

A check of five local retail outlets along Main St. in Woodbury this morning found the price of regular to be $3.79.9 at four and $3.77.9 at one.

Local retailers attribute the 15-cent difference in the state average to higher delivery charges imposed by their suppliers. They estimate they are making about five cents per gallon.

Including the change in gas prices in Tennessee during the past week, prices yesterday were 25.4 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 15.7 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.

The national average has increased 28.6 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 27.9 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.

"Average retail gasoline prices will likely rise this week, after a surge in wholesale prices late last week," said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan.

"Some analysts believe gasoline prices may have peaked, but I am not at all confident in such words. I still maintain that prices will likely not peak until we get closer to the month of May, as a majority of locales around the United States make eventual switch overs to summer spec gasoline," DeHaan said.

I would like to know the difference between the "winter" and "summer" gasoline. It sounds to me like another excuse to increase the price at the pump.

I feel for our local retailers having to pay the high prices for delivery of gasoline. I had a chance to fill up at Swifty's (across from Jones Car Wash in Murfreesboro Saturday) for $3.51 per gallon. It was $3.79 Swifty's is smaller than any gas station in Woodbury. I'm sorry, but if I can buy gas for for almost $.30 per gallon less, I will. Imagine what that saves in a years time. I'm sure Swifty's made a profit, and that is why you don't see any gas stations going out of business in Woodbury.

Pinpointing why the price of gas is what it is in any particular place at any particular time has been difficult since I first began following the issue in the 1970s. There appear to be a lot of contributing factors. The businesses which sell it directly to the consumer around here don't appear to be making either a large or unreasonable percentage of the charge.

I agree with Mingle47. If I am in Murfreesboro, that's where I buy my gas. Today, Dodge's Store had regular for $3.51. Big difference from $3.79 in Woodbury. If I happen to run low and am going to Murfreesboro, I will stop and get only enough, in Woodbury, to get me there.

I make sure to fill up our vehicles every chance we get outside of Woodbury. Last week we drove to Murfreesboro just to get gas.I'm not sure how/why there is such a huge difference in gas prices just 20 minutes down the road.

The gas prices in Murfreesboro are way better than what i am having to pay. Im from woodbury and stationed in Yuma, Az in the Marine Corps. Gas prices here were $4.09 for reqular...and thats at the cheap store.

Thank you YumaMarine for your service and thank you for reminding us that we probably are not being cheated in our own little part of the world.
