My question is? Why would you even make this a poll for people to vote on? I have never been a coach, but I do know it takes alot of their personal time, money and effort to do the job as a coach of any sport. I know they get paid X amount of money to do this job, which I am almost positive won't even pay for their gasoline, food or the food they buy for players who don't have any money. I have heard nothing but good, positive things about this coach, so I don't understand why you would ask if we need to replace him. Winning/Losing isn't all on the coach, it's a team effort. Maybe you should ask the Football boy's what they think and their reasoning behind why they want to keep thier coach or give hime the boot. We all want to win, that's a given, but it doesn't always happen. I thought "WE R CANNON and WE BELIEVE"?? Oh, and I am not a football parent, just a parent who believe's in our children and the people who spend more time with them than we do....THEIR COACHES!

I will have to agree with the above post. Has anybody ever thought about the ages of these boys? We only had 3 Seniors, 4 Jrs, 14 Sophms, 24 Freshman. Our team is very young. There is alot that needs to be taught to these boys. Myself I think that the team did good this year with their age. We will get better. And WE R Cannon and I do Believe in this team and all the other high school teams.

There's a reason there were only 3 seniors on the team this year....the others quit. They were tired of playing for a coach that just yelled and never motivated. Did anyone else notice at Friday night's game that instead of his maroon and gold warm up suit, the coach chose to wear his black and yellow. It looked like one of Upperman's coaches was on our sidelines. Think coach, think.

I think it's a shame that the outcome of our season is being placed on ONE man. As brokenbit stated WE ARE A YOUNG TEAM! This has been a building, learning year. It really saddens me that we as a County are so quick to publicly run this man in the ground. And I highly doubt that any of us would appreciate it if we woke up to find our jobs being VOTED on in the Cannon Courier. Coach Schrenk has family that I feel sure read the Courier and this has to be very hurtful for them to see. I personally think we need to all pull together and offer our support for this football team instead of constantly picking it apart. What are we telling our kids? Nobody is going to agree with every single decision and action of ANY coach. But, I do think we can stay positive and teach our kids to show respect....

I was a football parent and booster club member under this coach. He WAS a dream when he came in here, but he also came in here to a team that was hungry for wins! They were trained under Barger, and left to rot under Bartsch....so when he arrived he already had a full blown trained and eager team! Then he got cocky when he realized the boys would do anything for the "other" coaches he had under him and so he let them go as he felt intimadated by them. He wanted it all HIS way or NO way...well he got it! What goes around comes around! He was cocky with the boys and the parents. He used the parents to get what he needed and the boys too then discarded them. Ask some of the boys who were on that winning team...how much respect they have for him now that they're done playing for him. Things went to his head that first season and then it was downhill ever since. The age of the boys is not an excuse for his lack of leadership. If you know him well it's all about him not about them....so sad. He needs to walk the walk he used to preach about~

I'm so thankful that I don't have the responsibility of coaching in addition to all the other responsibilites teachers have at school...good grief people! It's pathetic that this poll was even created to begin with. What if your job performance was critiqued in a public manner such as this? Publicly humiliating someone is not the answer to the problem.

Find it very tacky and unprofessional that the Cannon Courier would poll citizens on a matter of a faculty decision . Decisions of this nature are up to the schools adminstration and ultimatly the school board. It appears that the motives of some to bring a hometown boy to the head coach position and possibly a new crop of daddy coaches has been put into action. If this group would have got behind our present coach instead of plotting against him and planted the seeds of disrespect in their on kids and players we would be going in the right direction. Some of the same so called supporters were going behind the backs of the previous coaches that they successfully run out of town so we will see how they react when they get what they ask for !

Proud citizen - CCHS boys basketball team appears to lacking juniors and seniors is that because our coach yelled at them and pre season predictions are under .500 do we need to start a poll to run Rigsby off if he can't get the job done with freshman and sophmores?
October 31, 2011 at 12:06pm
Not that I agree with this poll at all, but I dont think it is fair to start comparing football and basketball. Rigsby might have a young team this year, but I am pretty sure he won more than one game last season. Actually, both basketball teams went pretty far into March last year. If you don't believe me, go look in the CCHS gym at all of the banners from previous years. Football has one hanging. Cannon County has never been a football town, so I think that is a very immature statement on the part of cchssupporter...or should it be cchsFOOTBALLsupporter.

Everybody knows how I feel about Cannon County football. This is not the place to voice your concerns. Coach Shrenk is a person and has a family and so are the players. Please keep that in mind. If you have concerns about our football program please voice that to your school board member in private. The coaching staff and the players did their best this season and that's all we can ask for. Go Lions!!!!

mkjomurf: He's not "my" coach...I haven't even been to a football game this year. I have no idea the situation you're talking about, but my guess is that this isn't the place to discuss it. We should be examples to our children; this is a form of bullying...only it's okay because "adults" are doing it. Even if the coach did what you said, bashing him publicly is not the answer.

Wow! I wish there was this much discussion about the fact our kids have no music education in elementary school! My older children and me, too, went to Coffee schools where music is taught from kindergarten until they enter middle school where it is by choice. I wish it provoked as much controversy as the football and coach deal! Music has been proven to enhance grades. Don't know that throwing a ball of any kind has done that! The majority of students do not play sports. SO, I once again am in the minority. I don't do sports. All of you who are bickering over the coach ?? Have a nice day! :)

I dont agree with this poll either however I will say this all of these coaches should be about the kids and helping them not about guiding the booster club or making comments like "its your job to raise the money and my job to spend it". I question any coach that does something to hurt the future of these great kids. Thank you lions for all you gave this year.

HAHA in what world do you live? It is about winning in ANY sport. I kills me to see them dang big kids in the hall way laugh at the thought of playing football! wonder why they laugh?.....O yeah becasue its playing for a club headed down the drain! all the work of the past 5-7 years of getting a club house(not state of the art but better than the old one) up dating the field, ALL of that support that had picked up,o and importantly the RESPECT cannon had began to earn, all has either went in vein or complelty disappered because of this guy.

You must be objective in making a decision like this. There are many factors that need to be considered and this should't be a "witch hunt". Good luck to whoever had the final say.

While we are at it why not ask if we need to have a teacher replaced, or a principal of a school, how about a school board member or another county elected official. How about that business just up the street or wait I have a problem with my neighbor up the road can I place a poll about that? This poll is uncalled for and should be removed.

This poll is disrespectful and some of the comments reflect a lack of character. Football is an organization in which everyone should contribute in order for it to be successful including coaches, student athletes, parents and community.

"A winner never stops trying!" --- Tom Landry

Seems to me that any position in the county, state or nation that is being supported by taxpayer's dollars is a fair subject for a poll, distasteful as it might appear to some.

What a shame that people don't get uptight about the dismal year after year low ACT scores of our local students (check out the ranking of the county versus all other caunties that surround Cannon) and the failure to properly prepare many of our graduates for the college level courses or even as junebug18 mentions, the lack of interest in some of the more pleasing and rewarding aspects of an education such as that found in music.

My initial response when I first read this "poll" was disappointment and resentment. I can honestly say my feelings haven't changed much. For me it was like reading one of those "rag" magazines at the checkout line in the grocery store.

The Courier has the right to publish anything they so desire. Just as I have the right to disagree with it. I personally think it gives people a public place to come and bash someone from behind a screen name. That's easy. Try going to a man face to face and say the things to him and one finds that isn't so easy to do. Pretty cowardly in my humble opinion.

It's easy to point a finger at someone else. It keeps you from having to take a good look at yourself. I think we have the mentality in this county that just because our kids dress out they have the right to play. WE don't really want to win, we want our kids to play. We aren't ready to put forth what it takes to be a winning team. Parents want to know what time practice is over, do we have to practice on breaks, why so early, why so late....I bet the parents at Smith county don't complain and ask those questions...we need a different mindset here. Take responsibility for your part in this season. What can you do to help your child get better?

Can someone tell me why the Junior High Football team isn't undergoing the same scrutiny as the High School Team?
They don't run the same offense as the High School (which would make a huge difference in the transistion of the players from Junior High to High School). They have the same win loss record as the High School if not worse and I could go on and on.
Look at Eagleville, Gordonsville, Cascade and even Cornerstone Middle School programs. When those players hit high school they are fundamentally sound ready for the next step.

Youth and inexperience are the reasons why the Lions went 0-10. Give them a chance to grow and learn and they will be successful in the next two seasons, but if you want rebuilding years not to be so painful in the future, make changes on the junior high level.
I invite you to listen after the 9AM ABC News Thursday morning as I give my opinion on this poll and any other polls as well as some other issues AM 1540, FM 96.7 WBRY

Yes our team is young but why? Because all out more seasoned players refused to play for this coach. They were tired of his arrogant, hateful, could care less about the player attitude. How many more won't be back next year? The proof is in the pudding people two years of nothing. What more needs to be said? And yes we can look at our younger teams and wonder but remember the coaches of those teams are VOLUNTEERS they are not getting paid to do what they do. They didn't come in here making promises they aren't keeping. So bless them for even bothering and thank you for the time you put into my son good or bad.

Supporter-you never responded to my question regarding what this poll (which I do not approve of) has to do with boys basketball?
