Cannon County's basketball teams suffered losses in a a rare doubleheader sweep here Monday night, but in much different fashion.

The No. 3-ranked Lionettes, who will tumble when the Class AA statewide poll is released Tuesday, suffered a 59-39 loss to No. 6 Livingston. It was the third consecutive District 8-AA for the Lionettes (18-5, 3-3).

Cannon County's boys put together a strong effort before falling, 74-71, in a see-saw affair. The Lions (16-8, 4-2) maintain a share of the District 8-AA lead. Cody Ruehlen poured in 23 for Cannon County.

Both teams will play host to York Institute in key District 8-AA games at Robert A. Harris Gymnasium Friday. The girls game begins at 6 p.m.

Read next week's Cannon Courier for a full report of both games.

This boy's team reminds me of a scrappy Dibrell team of the fifties--lead by a smallish, very talented guard, Joey Hildreth, along with a great cast of contributers that played its way into the state finals.

DNJ boys leader's listing had Davenport and Nave at or near the top in a number of areas and Jones and Cripps listed also.

Great team -- I still believe in them and look forward to watching them play on Channel 8.
