COMMENTARY: Left-wing Vs. Right-wing Bias In Main Stream Media

Well, it’s all over but the shouting, and just about everywhere you look conservative politicians have taken over everything from local government to the U.S. Congress.

And you know, I’m kind of curious about how they did it.

To hear some people tell it, the liberal, supposedly left-wing media are controlling what people see, hear and read, and, more importantly, are producing a nation of political zombies who simply vote the way the liberal media want them to.

So to hear Michael “I’m Right and You’re Wrong” Savage tell it, the electorate finally got fed up with the liberal bias and rebelled against big government, big spending, and, more importantly, big media.

Now, my question is, if the media are giving us this one-sided picture, where did the conservative voters get their information from?

Surely they didn’t get it from political advertising and commercials.

By common agreement, this was the most personalized and antagonistic election campaign season in recent memory, and the voters got precious little real information through that medium.

So if conservative outlets are so few and far between, then how in the world could they have influenced so many voters?

And if the voters are being so influenced by this supposed bias, then how in the world did all of those winning conservatives get elected in the first place?

No, the voters weren’t responding to a liberal or conservative viewpoint in the news pages or on the news programs.

They were responding, instead, to the information they received from news stories about what the politicians everywhere from the local to the federal government were doing.

So now the liberals are saying the media has a right-wing bias, and distorted what was going on in Washington.

Plus, many of the liberal pundits are saying the people weren’t reacting against President Obama’s programs, they were responding to how those programs were packaged.

But you know, except for the “packaging” theory, conservatives are saying the same kinds of things: The media has a liberal bias and the people saw right through it.

What the media aren’t telling us is what to think, what to believe and how to act. They are telling us what is important, and then allowing us to make up our minds as to what we want to do about it.

The news media gave us our options, and will do so again.

And if the people don’t like what’s going on, they’ll let their voice be heard again in two years.

That’s how the system is supposed to work.

"What the media aren’t telling us is what to think, what to believe and how to act. They are telling us what is important, and then allowing us to make up our minds as to what we want to do about it."

Mr Buriss, seems to me the media, both sides, were not reporting just what they thought was important but were hell bent on shaping opinion, to the point of telling us how to act--how to vote-- when we cast that ballot.

Matthews, maddow, Huckabee, Hannity, Palin were trolling for votes it seemed everytime I clicked the remote to those stations.

Few were the outlets who just presented the facts, and only the facts, without half truths and misrepresentations. I found very few.

If you ever cranked up Supertalk 99== you got it full bore.

I would have greatly appreciated having just the facts, maam, and nothing more.

dailyreader you wouldn't know a "fact" if it hit you square in the mouth and if it did you couldn't find it even if you were drawn a map.

"You got it full bore" from the left liberal side if you listened to Keith Olberman, John Daily, CNN or CNBC and most of the other mainstream media outlets as well.

Obama flew all over America and took Pelosi with him the last few days before the elction trying to do damage control to no avail. So quit whinning about everyone else who did the same thing he did.

I know you must have the best garden in Rutherford County with as much manure as you spread because BOTH sides were guilty of trying to "troll" for votes and sway public opinion.

What you are really trying to say is you think the American people are ignorant because they voted the people they felt were destroying America out of office.

Stop being a sore loser and get over it. Your party still has control of the Senate and the Presidency so if you can't fix all of our problems as you suggest you can do with two of the three things then something must be wrong with your party.

Oh, I forgot you had all three for the last two years and two out of the three for the last four years and it just got worse. Maybe that is why you are still crying like a two year old.

To doolittle:

Your entire post seems nothing but an emotional diatribe.

You say:

"you wouldn't know a fact if it hit you in the face..."

"quit whining about everyone else..."

"I know you have the best garden...because of the manure you spread...etc."

"You are calling the American people ignorant..."

"Stop being a sore loser and get over it...etc. Something must be wrong with your party..."

"You are still crying like a two year old...etc"

Now, after quoting these quotes, is it really worth pointing out that it's a bit telling that you called another person a "two year old"?

To pcm2f:

1. I didn't ask your opinion.
2. If you don't like mine, scroll on up.
3. I was pointing out the obvious with the facts I presented that dailyreader conveniently left out.
4. You seem to be a lot like him in that you are a sore loser and can't accept reality.
5. I really don't care about your opinion of me anyway. You are dismissed now. You can leave.

hensondelbert you guessed it. I am on my heels because of dailyreader. I just can't cope with the level of intelligence dailyreader posseses. He is just too far above me and everyone else. I am reeling in my dispair over how much his comments make sense to the people of the world.

To be honest, I have been devestated for a while now and I am having a hard time coping with it. Does it show?

And p.s. everyone I wanted to win, actually won, so I am not sore about anything that happened in the election, I am quite elated (that means happy in case you were wondering).

And dailyreader it is still fun, because reading your comments is like reading a combination of pre-school and kindergarten essays.

It just kind of starts somewhere in the middle, goes back to the beginning, talks about people no one knows and quotes things that is somewhere in your own mind. The only thing missing is a finger paint picture attached to your comments.

I personally find it hillarious, especially the part about you being the spell check police. I think I will try to find you a badge.

Send me your Murfreesboro address and I will make sure you get it!

hensondelbert it is called "sarcasm" and done intentionally to ensure I get a response from people like yourself and dailyreader.

You two are so simple and easy to manipulate you have no idea it is even being done.

Really there is no challenge in either of you because you can't think beyond what you see and what is the fun in that?

I hate having to explain what should be so obvious. Sorry you can't keep up.

Where is our real focus?

Are some folks chasing their tails?

Please consider:

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.Matthew 6:31-33. KJV
