Back In Business: Local Republican Party Reorganizes, Elects Officers

The Republican Party has been hijacked by the extremists and stoked by the Becks and Palins of the far right.
Locally we saw Republican candidates for Gordon’s seat fall all over themselves trying to thinly disguise their bigotry on the mosques building in the Boro and in New York.
Nationally we saw and heard Republican/Tea Party extremists demonizing illegal immigrants, Muslims, blacks, welfare recipients, stem cell research advocates, women who have abortions, gays and lesbians and liberals–just as starters.
We heard Angle wanting to use 2nd Amendment Rights as a remedy for DC and Paul wanting the government out of civil rights and lunch counters.
Social Security and Medicare became socialism and income taxes as a redistribution of wealth scheme-more socialism–with healthcare on a national level being the ultimate form of socialism.

And then we have O’Donnell who believes condoms spreads AIDS and teenagers go wild when they have access to same. A nonbeliever in evolution who thinks masturbation is a sin, dabbling in witchcraft on the side while God is talking direct to her.

The moderate Republicans are afraid to take a stand against the extremism in their party and that makes them as extreme as those who are doing the railing and ranting on television and radio.
I’ll vote for a Democrat rather than foster extremism like we are hearing daily.

Likely voters in battleground districts see extremists as having a more dominant influence over the Democratic Party than the GOP.

This result comes from The Hill 2010 Midterm Election Poll, which found that 44 percent of likely voters say the Democratic Party is more dominated by its extreme elements; whereas 37 percent say it’s the Republican Party that is more dominated by extremists.

Dailyreader you are like all other Democrats in that you would fuss if your ice cream was cold.

The "extremism" you say you hear about each day is coming from the fact the Democrats have held the power for almost four years and have done more to destroy this country in that short of time than has been done in the 234 total years we have been in existence.

You love to preach and stand on your soap box and ignore the fact that your party while in control of both the House, the Senate and the Presidency has been directly responsible for the most economic debt in the history of our country.

You ignore the fact that unemployment has remained steady at 9.6% or higher under your party's watch, which is the longest time period since the great depression.

You ignore the fact that your party shoved a Health Care bill down the throats of the American people that they did not want and will be determined to be un-constitutional.

You ignore the fact that your party believes that the killing of innocent babies is not murder as long as you define it as a "choice" and then you go out and actively fight for the rights of the convicted felon who murders, rapes and mutalates children.

You ignore the fact that your party loves to proclaim "seperation of church and state" at every single opprotunity and then actively supports a religion known to support terrorism and try to help them build a mosque two blocks from the site of one of the worst disaters in U.S. history.

You ignore the fact your party believes in "entitlements" and handouts to every single person no matter what the cost now or 20 years from now. You democrats love the concept of don't work, let the government provide all you need.

By your own responses it is easy to determine that you personally are a liberal aethist and as much or more of the problem we face in America today. You don't have any solutions, you just want to blame and complain like all other Democrats.

I believe Mark Twain said it best when he said "Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself."

Nothing could better describe this Democratically controlled Congress and Presidency. And nothing could better describe liberal, anti-God Democrats like your self. You are the very definition of extremism that you say you hear about daily.

With the exception of 2, it amazes me that the entire leadership of the Cannon County Republican Party consists of implants. I am a proud republican, but I hate that the Cannon County Republican Party has been taken over by the Wilson County trouble makers who came in and fired all republican members of the election commission and replaced them with incompetent people who don't have a clue as to what they are doing.

This group is far from representative of your typical Cannon County Republican. The "true" Cannon County Republicans would refuse to associate with this bunch, and rightly so. They are very mean spirted and are trying to turn Cannon County into the yankee havens they came from. I'll pass.

Civility is a central ingredient in a democratic society. Respectful disagreement is part and parcel of political discourse but resorting to name calling is destructive to the process and intolerance for those with a different view only degrades the individual who lacks those American ideals of honor, dignity and respect for neighbors.

When you're dealing with extreme circumstances most of the time there is an extreme response. In this past election the Democrats did thier best to discredit & cower the conservative right wing by using hot button labels like racists, intolerant, etc. If you're going to break out such extreme & inflammatory words you better be ready for an extreme defense from the people you're attacking. So you can thank the Democratic party for starting the fire of extremism in this case. I have no desire to take a stand against the extremism w/in the Republican party. To me it's the only thing offering any balance to keep the left from running over everyone who doesn't have the same ideology they do.

Leatherneck: Let's see, we had Baptists being pilloried and whipped, even urinated on in Virginia for differing from the Anglicans, in the north we had outright discrimination against Quakers, Catholics and Jews (even Muslims, few that they were got their fair share) by what morphed from the Puritan sect along with the offshoots of the Church of England. Outright religious discrimination was prevalent almost everywhere in the colonies.
Madison, Jefferson, Adams, Franklin, Paine and even Washington, to some degree along with others,saw this.
So who were the real extremists? Those who barred all dissent from what they thought the Bible said (we see this today from the religious right) or those who saw first hand the intolerance of religious self-righteousness of sects who thought their way was the only way and made sure we had a "wall of separation" in our Bill of Rights (even though it didn't applied to the states until the 14th was ratified).

Great men-- just a few offhand---these and others of the Revolution (the Revolution was driven in part by religion--note how often Washington prayed for assistance from the Divine Providence), along with Martin Luther, George Whitefield, Leland and Backus, Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Lincoln (what greater cause then freedom for blacks), and, much like Jefferson, Jesus and his teachings.

And to the Reverend, religious intolerance from a man of the cloth is the most pernicious of all.

I just wonder dailyreader do you stand in front of the mirror and listen to yourself talk just so you can find someone who will listen and believe the nonsense you rant about?

So which lie are you trying to spread today? It seems to me you tell so many you can't keep up with what you have told.

And just to be clear about your party that you love to promote, do you remember in all your worldly travels about the discrimination they actively promoted under the disguise of the Ku Klux Klan and the lynchings, hangings and torture?

Do you remember your party's illustrious Governor Wallace who made his famous "schoolhouse door" speech in 1963 or the fire hoses and police dogs that were turned on the black citizens of Birmingham?

I know it hard because you love to hear yourself talk, but when you cast the stones and live in a glass house you must remember that windows get broken very easily.

I'm not a yankee, nor trying to turn anything into a "yankee haven." I grew up in Readyville, thank you. I know this still makes me an "implant", outsider, or whatever else you want to call someone not from Cannon County. For the record, I don't know anyone from the Wilson County Republican Party, or if I do, I don't realize that's where they're from. However, this really shouldn't matter. The meeting was open & any "proud Republican" could have been there and had their name submitted for the offices. I do not appreciate the fact that w/o knowing me you have called me "mean spirited" & encouraged others to "refuse to associate with this bunch." From your post I could make plenty of judgments about you to put on here. I hope that as "a proud Republican" you will decide to one day attend a monthly meeting & allow me to form an opinion of you outside of your post & for you to meet me and form an opinion of me and anyone else there, not based on what you think you know.

reverend, all the founders believed in God--some felt that God took an active part in man's destiny, some believed He kick started the universe and let it run amok.
Deism does not deny the existence of a God--Franklin seems to have felt that there was one God who got things off to a start and backed off and a number of other Gods who looked after various solar systems.
Jefferson and many others felt the presence of God but did not believe in the divinity of Christ. Adams, with a Calvinist beginning became a Unitarian. Read Paine's Age of Reason, try to understand Madison's religious upbringing and why he fought so hard for Jefferson "wall of separation."

There are enough democrats to elect democrats but to elect a republican it takes the votes both republican and democrats.

You must have some really good drugs to try and pass that off because I can name you many of your most loyal Democrats who are still in office today who were not only a part of that white supremacy mantra, but in many cases were the Grand Master Dragons.

I'm a transplant from M'boro and consider myself an independent. I moved to Woodbury because I love the scenic beauty and most of the people I have met. The one thing I can't understand is how most people want to keep this place in the 1950's. Some people that have posted on this article need to get off the Cannon County green and meth. Dailyreader you really need to think about getting some medication from a real Dr. and quit self medicating yourself with what ever it is you are using. Smoking Cannon County Green or the meth is really taking you away from reality. As far as "tcraw" states where have the transplants been mean spirited? I really think most of them are probably good people that want what is best for the county. Sounds to me like you are the mean spirited one. Maybe the ones that were "fired " were setting on their thumbs doing nothing. I'm can see why some of you are the way you are, just go outside Cannon County and see what the real world is like and maybe you will just see the light. It has been pointed out, and rightly so, a political party becomes what its members endorse–true of Democrats who stood in the way of civil rights or any other measures that would have added to the dignity of an individual.
The same is true today–so when a party opens its arms to those that have adopted extreme positions, they have become part and parcel of those positions themselves, even though some may hold more moderate positions-- the flavoring is already in the pudding.
The excerpts noted below are extremes from my liberal Democrat view –Republicans
O”Donnell, Angle, Miller, Paul, Buck, Johnson, Paladion, McMahon, Rubio and others have voiced one or more these positions (and I did not even get into positions taken on Creationism, Muslims, gays and immigrants or more of O’Donnell’s foolishness).
Eliminate the Dept. Of Education, unconstitutional-- minimum wage laws, Social Security, Medicare, Veterans Administration, hate crime laws, healthcare reform, privatize Social Security, dismantle Social Security and Medicare–intergenerational welfare, abolish Federal Reserve, Social Security a “Ponzi” scheme, unemployment benefits is welfare, welfare recipients into work camps, 1964 Civil Rights Act- bad, Chinese plotting to take over US, developing mice with human functioning brains, AIDS platform for homosexuals to recruit adolescents, no abortion for those women raped or subject to incest, “don’t punish the rich” by taking away the Bush tax cuts, man does not create climate change, repeal 17th Amendment, ban IUDs along with birth control pills.

Extreme–I think so and yet most moderate Republicans won’t “refudiate” these positions, so this becomes the face of the Party.

chukar-I will bet I have seen more of this world than you and I have the means to live anywhere I want, but I choose Cannon County because it is a nice quiet town that is a little behind times (80's maybe). Did our lower taxes and home prices help you make that big 16 mile move of yours? I hear so often how much better it was where we came from and we are here now to show you how it should be done, well if you truly believe that, why did you leave paradise? Just for the record, most of those people either join the program, leave mad with tails tucked or recluse to the back of a hollow and turn into dailyreader. I hate to be bearer of bad news but we don't need to be saved from our community or our relaxed life style and we don't want to be a suburb of Murfreesboro. That time will come all too soon. We cant stop it but please let us enjoy OUR home while we can.

I don't doubt you have seen more of the world than me and have a better income.I have only seen part of the world thanks to our dear uncle sam but have traveled all over the US. After taxes I only have a 6 digit income so I will concede to you on those points. Do I want Cannon county to be another M'boro? #ell no! What I want is for the children of Cannon Co. to have above average schools and a chance at a college education or trade school. I want jobs and decent wages for them so that they stay in Cannon co. instead of driving 50 or 60 miles to work or moving away. I want decent wages for the city and county employees with good healtcare partially paid for by the people they serve. What I don't want is a county ran by the same people over the last 60 yrs. that have constantly fought the things I have listed above. So I ask you with your vast fortune and world travels what do you want? The same thing the county has had for the last sixty years?

My children got as good an education here as anywhere else in the U.S and they will have great jobs after college and will probably live here, but thank you for your concern. Not sure how many digits they will make but pretty sure they will be very comfortable and happy.

My point was not to boost but to assure you that most of us live here by choice--we are not trapped and seeking outside salvation.

Is Cannon County perfect-- #ell no and we should do everything we can to make our community better. Does Cannon need a factory to pollute our air , water and children? I say #ell no but if we must is your backyard for sale?

As for what do I want? Not much I just want my peace and quiet and my transplant (i was not born here either) neighbors to quit telling me how to live and whining about how backward we are.
