News from the Mountain

Mornings around here are pretty nice, if you can get out early before the sun has a chance to zap you with its hot rays. Even though the weather is hot these days, I'll still take it over winter weather anytime. I can always find a shade to relax under, if I need to. Nothing like sitting on the porch, deck, or patio with a cool drink late in the day after temperatures start cooling off is there? Such a beautiful view I have of the mountain from our patio. Take time to enjoy the outdoors, because we know the kind of weather we'll be having later on after the fall season leaves us. Every season has its own beauty that we can admire. I'm very (yes) very cold natured so winter is one season I can't admire that much and am always glad when it departs from us. The polar bears can have it for my part and with their fur coats, I'm sure they adapt very nicely.

July 4th, coming up shortly and plenty of fireworks will be going off everywhere. Last year's celebrations around here so beautiful. Of course, be careful with those fireworks as a whole lot of people usually get hurt each year from shooting them. Lots of cookouts and get-togethers will be going on so just have a great time.

The little hummers are flying at our patio door, while I'm writing the column. That's my cue to refill their feeders so they will stay happy and provide a lot of enjoyment in watching them.

Those beetles keep hanging on to literally about every plant and flower I have. Even the hydrangeas are game for them. Speaking of the hydrangeas, mine are covered this year with a zillion blooms. Never have they bloomed like this before. I've noticed at other people's homes their hydrangeas are like mine with big beautiful blooms, also. Some have told me this is probably from all the rain we had back earlier in the spring. For some reason, there seems to be more beetles this go around. I don't know if they're good for anything as I just think they're here to destroy the beauty of our flowers and plants. Maybe they are a scientific experiment that backfired. That might explain them I guess. Need to inquire for an answer from Clyde and Bobby. On second thought, will skip that notion as the fee they would charge me, I could not afford.

I do hope all you dads out there had a wonderful Father's Day filled with love. You, of course, should have been overloaded with cards and gifts and etc. In appreciation of how important you are to your family. Your leadership and guidance in the family keeps it on a firm foundation.

Clyde has sealed his fate and has been ousted by the 'little green men' as their leader for what he has said about them regarding the Gassaway Homecoming. Now Bobby has started off on the wrong foot with me in all of this as I've heard 'through the grapevine' he has invited those little green fellas to the "Gunter Reunion". That ain't gonna happen as no aliens are allowed on the premises period! Clyde's upset with the little green men since he lost out to Bobby in being their leader and he says he'll be a no show (like George Jones) at the reunion if the aliens are going to be there. Clyde and his Bluegrass Band playing at our family reunion is a tradition. Bobby will just have to get himself out of the hold he's dug by telling the little green men he should have cleared the invitation to our reunion with me. Personally, I think Bobby likes all this drama going on.

Please keep in prayer: Denise Stanton, Charlie Mai Daniel, Carlon and Mai Nell Melton, Edith Miller, Ruth Brown, Fay Pitts and Donna Lawson.
