The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency's Nutrition Program for Older Adults and Adults with Disabilities held Mayors For Meals Day as a part of its March For Meals campaign. Mayor Mike Gannon participated in the event to show his support for our community's homebound and hungry seniors.

The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency's Nutrition Program for Older Adults and Adults with Disabilities Mayors For Meals Day event was on Wednesday, March 20, 2013.

"We are excited about having Mayor Gannon participate in our Mayors for Meals Day event," said Kelly Dishman Nutrition & Field Services Director." We are so pleased with the outpouring of support we've received from Mayor Gannon and the entire Cannon County Community".

March For Meals is a national campaign during the month of March, initiated by the Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA), which seeks to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on the part of the local community.

Senior Nutrition Programs across the United States, like The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency's Nutrition Program for Older Adults and Adults with Disabilities, promote March For Meals in their local communities through public events, partnerships with local businesses, volunteer recruitment and fundraising initiatives. Mayors For Meals Day is a component of March For Meals that utilizes the involvement of local Mayors and other local elected officials.

The program has become essential for thousands of elderly and persons with disabilities in the Upper Cumberland area. A well-balanced, nutritious noon meal is delivered daily by a friendly employee or volunteer that has a positive impact socially and nutritionally. The meals are approved by a Registered Dietician which meets the Dietary Reference Intake as established by the Food & Nutrition Academy of Sciences.

The Meals On Wheels Association of America is the only national association and network dedicated solely to ending senior hunger in America. We are the oldest and largest organization composed of and representing local, community-based Senior Nutrition Programs in all 50 states and U.S. territories. The vision of Meals On Wheels is to end senior hunger by 2020. To obtain more information about us or to locate a local Meals On Wheels program, visit our website at www.mowaa.org.
