A man’s condition is unknown at Vanderbilt Medical Center after being shot by Dekalb County sheriff’s officers late Wednesday night.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said the man drew his weapon when approached by officers. Neither the name of the man or his condition has been released.

Officers initially responded to reports of gunshots in the area of Adcock Cemetery Road.

"The deputy and detective drove to Petty Road and stopped near the suspect's house," Ray said in a news release. ”As they got out of their vehicles and prepared to walk up the road toward his home, the man came out from behind some trees in a neighbor's yard."

The man then drew his gun on officers with a deputy and a detective drew their weapons and fired multiple shots.

The suspect was wounded and taken to Dekalb Community Hospital before he was taken by ambulance to Vanderbilt Medical Center.

The case is now under investigation by the Sheriff's Department, TBI, and the District Attorney Generals Office.
