Beginning on Tuesday, January 7th, producers in Cannon, Coffee and Warren County’s will have the opportunity to participate in a Master Beef Producer Class. The group will meet for 10 consecutive weeks focusing on issues facing the beef industry. The class will be offered on Tuesday nights from 6:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M..  Completion of this course will allow producers to increase their Tennessee Agriculture Enhancement cost share maximum from 35% to 50%. Producers that have graduated in the past agree on the benefits of the Master Beef Producer course. The topics are beneficial; speakers are well well-informed, well worth the cost of the classes.

In order to graduate and become an official Master Beef Producer, you must attend a minimum of 8 of the 12 educational sessions. These include managing and planning for success, marketing, genetics, carcass traits, feeding and managing the cow herd, forage production, reproduction, herd health, cattle handling and behavior, environmental concerns and food safety.

Classes will be held at the Bridgestone Learning Center located near the Bridgestone plant. The cost of the course is $150.00. If you have a premise ID number and a BQA number, the cost is $50.00. If you are interested in participating in a Master Beef Producer program, please give the Cannon County Extension Office a call at 563-2554. All programs conducted by the University of Tennessee Extension are conducted on a nondiscriminatory basis without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, Religion, veteran status or other legally protected categories.
