Cannon County is hoping for holiday cheer in upcoming basketball tournaments; however, it is also a final chance to look at different rotations and get set for the final push in January.

The Lionettes (10-1) and Lions (7-4) will host first-round action in the Sun Drop Romp Basketball Tournament Thursday before the event shifts to Warren County High School and Morrison School in Warren County Friday and Saturday.

The Lions will host Wilson Central Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The winner of the this game will play Hixson at Cannon County High School Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

The Lionettes will play host to Grundy County at 6 p.m. in a quarterfinal game Thursday.

Season passes for CCHS home games will not be honored for these games as it is part of Warren County’s tournament. CCHS is being used as a satellite site.

If the Lionettes win Thursday they will face either Rhea County or Warren County in the semifinals at Warren County High School Friday at 4:30 p.m.

If the Lionettes lost their quarterfinal game Thursday they would play Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Morrison School.

The girls championship game is scheduled for Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Warren County High School.

The boys bracket is a bit more complicated.

If the Lions win their first game Thursday afternoon, they play again that night. Pretty simple.

If they win both of those games they would play in the semifinals Friday at 6 p.m. at Warren County High School.

The boys championship is scheduled for Saturday at 6 p.m. at WCHS.

There is still two remaining scenarios for the boys. If they won the first game Thursday and lost the second then they would play Friday at 1:30 p.m. in a consolation game at Warren County High School.

If they won that game the Lions would play for fifth place Saturday at noon at WCHS.

If the Lions lost their first game Thursday they would play in the consolation game Friday at 6 p.m. at Morrison School.

Both teams will play in a tournament in San Destin, Fla., the following week. More on that tournament in next week’s Courier.
