I would like to take this opportunity to announce my candidacy for County Commissioner representing the first District of Cannon County.

If you are not acquainted with me, I am a 20 year resident of Cannon County and have enjoyed parallel careers in law enforcement, real estate and education.

I am married to Cathy Bryson Gibbs and we have resided on Burt Burgen Road since 1998. We have three grown children, and three wonderful grandchildren.

My business experience has taught me the importance of strategic planning and budgeting. I have operated the Career Institute since 1999 which is a successful school providing Tennesseecertified courses in real estate, law enforcement, cyber investigation and security. I am also a professional investigator which specializes in fraud, computer crime and computer forensics.

Having enjoyed simultaneous careers in a licensed and regulated private business while also serving in an elected government role which allows me a unique insight into the importance of elected officials who understand the law and respect our federal and state constitutions.

I approach government from a conservative viewpoint which emphasizes individual responsibility, limited government, and protecting private property rights. The county commission has to often make decisions between opposing viewpoints or decide between worthy causes with limited funds.

The funds of the county come from the pocketbooks of taxpayers. It is very important to keep working families and retired citizens in mind when deciding to spend their tax money. Cannon County is a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family, and I want the county to retain its rural charm while reaching out for enhancements to our wonderful life style .

I plan to ask for your help. Yes, I ask for your help and vote but more importantly, I want your advice. Following the lead of a state representative I plan a board, committee or a group of countywide, bipartisan advisors to review the issues and guide my decision making. In turn, I will insist upon open government from all department heads and demand proper and informative notice for any and all meetings. I truly have a vision of working for all of us – you and me – We the People.

I have long been an advocate of open meetings locally and taken action to correct violations. Additionally, I have made available on the Cannon County Network web site documents about your county government not readily available elsewhere.

Please visit www.cannoncounty.net and browse the laws, audits, private acts and other information regarding Cannon County.

If I do not get the chance to visit with you, I will take this opportunity to ask for your vote and thank you for your continued support. I can be reached by email at jimgibbs@cannoncounty.net or just call me at 615-765-7470.
