Individuals and families are invited to participate in the annual free Celebration of Spring at Edgar Evins State Park on Center Hill Lake, near Smithville, on Saturday, April 10th, sponsored by The Friends of Edgar Evins State Park, Inc., and the park employees. Cameras and binoculars are encouraged.

Registration will begin at 7:45 a.m. and activities at 8 a.m., continuing throughout the day. No reservations are required, and there are no admission fees. You may bring your picnic lunch to eat at the picnic tables and shelter houses or enjoy 10% off meals at The Galley Restaurant at the marina in the park.

A Minnie Pearl impersonator and country singer (Patricia Jackson) and Ranger Ramble Raccoon, the TN State Park mascot, will be on hand at the Visitor’s Center for photo ops, so bring your cameras and your children.

There will be pontoon boat rides for children three years or older, accompanied by an adult, organized sack and three legged races, and many more activities to appeal to youngsters. The park’s seasonal ranger, Holly Taylor, will offer a close up and personal encounter with her snake friends for the more adventurous. There will be a hike at 3:30 p.m. led by Ms. Taylor, especially for Daisy Scouts and other children approximately ages 5 through 7.

For adults and older children there will be guided birding, wildflower, and butterfly walks, as well as a chance to hike on several trails throughout the day.
