Cannon earns a split in border battle

MANCHESTER - Cannon County’s basketball teams earned a split in its border battle against Coffee County (Jan. 7).

The Lionettes earned the No. 1 ranking in the state in Class AA earlier in the day and survived a 41-38 win against Coffee County to sweep the season series.

The Lions dropped a 41-38 decision and settled for a split in the season series.

Abbey Sissom led the Lionettes with 14 points in their win against Coffee County. Jordan Hollis added eight points.

Rebekah Faulkner owned the boards. She finished with six points and 10 rebounds. Madison Walkup also tallied six points.

Cory Henley and Tanner Larson each scored 13 to lead the Lions against Coffee County. Jarrett Melton had a stellar all-around game with 11 points, eight assists, four rebounds and three steals.

The Lions trailed 19-17 at halftime but were outscored 42-32 in the second half.
