Cannon County’s tennis team will be well represented at this week’s Region 4-A/AA Championship in Chattanooga.

Taylor Blanton and Hunter Brown captured the District 8-A/AA Doubles Title with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) win against DeKalb County’s Leach and Young.

Jordan Hollis finished runner up in the girls’ District 8-A/AA championship with a tough 4-6, 6-1, 2-6, setback to Livingston Academy’s Katie Hummel.

Blanton, Brown and Hollis advance into the Region 4-A/AA Tournament.

“They have all been consistent this season and they played well to earn their way into the region tournament,” said Ronny Burks, Cannon County boys and girls tennis coach. “They all had to play well to advance and they did.”

Blanton and Brown had to win three matches to capture the championship.

They began their run with an impressive win against Central Magnet’s Stuart-Chandrashekar.

The Cannon County duo suffered a 4-6 setback in the first set but stormed back to take the second set 6-2 to set the stage for an intense third and decisive set.

Blanton and Brown battled and held on for a 6-4 win to advance into the semifinals, where they collected a win by forfeit to each the finals. With a region berth already in hand, Blanton and Brown left nothing to chance and took a two-set win for the championship.

Hollis also had to win three matches to win the championship.

She managed to capture two of them but fell just short in the championship.

Hollis knocked out Central Magnet’s Katie Green, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to reach the semifinals. She beat DeKalb County’s Mallory Sullivan to reach the championship match and assure her place in this week’s Region 4-A/AA Tournament. Hollis had to battle to advance. She lost the first set,5-7, but battled back with 6-4, 6-2 decisions in the next two.
