The Middle Tennessee Association of REALTORS® is excited to announce that is will be holding the 5th Annual “Right Start” Golf Tournament on September 23 at Willowbrook Golf Course in Manchester.  The tournament is currently accepting team registrations as well as seeking businesses who would be interested in sponsoring the event.  The “Right Start” Golf Tournament is a charity golf scramble which raises funds to support the Coffee County Readers of Tomorrow Program and the MTAR Scholarship Fund.

The Right Start Tournament, now in its fifth year, is a four-person scramble event.  Prizes will be awarded to the best in each flight, as well as to winners of the Longest Drive and Closest-To-The-Hole skill shots.  Registration for an individual player is $75, or $300 per team; a $10 discount is available to individual Willowbrook Golf Course members.  Players will receive free mulligans and red tees if their team is prepaid by September 17th.  Lunch will be provided at 11:30 AM, and the tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 1:00 PM.  To register a team or individual player, call 1-877-893-2242.

Over the previous four tournaments, MTAR has raised over $5,800 for the Coffee County Readers of Tomorrow program, a partnership with the Governor’s Books From Birth Foundation and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.  Through Books From Birth, Coffee County parents may register their children to receive one children’s book a month from the state by mail until the child’s fifth birthday.  The program is free of charge to residents in participating communities, and is paid for by non-profit organizations in each county, with matching funds from the state.  To register your child with Books From Birth or to learn more about the program, call (931) 723-5100.

The Right Start Tournament also raises funds for the Middle TN Association of REALTORS® Scholarship Fund.  The MTAR Scholarship is awarded yearly to area high school seniors who wish to continue their education in a local institution of higher learning.  This scholarship is highly competitive, and is awarded based on a variety of factors including financial need, community service, academic achievement, and extracurricular involvement to name just a few.  Applicants must be planning to attend either Middle Tennessee State University, Motlow College, or the one of the Tennessee Technology Center campuses the following fall.  2010 Coffee County Central High graduate Matthew Travis was one of four students awarded the scholarship this year.

“MTAR realizes that education is one of most important elements of society” notes MTAR 2010 President Elect Janet Nettles of Coffee County Realty & Auction in Manchester.  “We want to ensure a better future for the children of Tennessee, because that ensures a stronger future for the State of Tennessee itself.  By supporting the Books From Birth program, we’re laying a firm foundation for these children’s basic education.  Then, by providing financial assistance to those who wish to continue their education past high school, MTAR is helping these students begin the next step on their journey to being a vital part of their community.  That’s why we’ve named this tournament the “Right Start” tournament, because that’s what we hope to give to our children through these programs.”

If you or your business would like to help sponsor the 2010 Right Start Tournament, please contact Bob Roberts at 1-877-893-2242 or at bob@mtar.org.  Sponsorships are available at various different monetary amounts or through prize donations, and allow differing levels of exposure to both the tournament’s golfers and the MTAR membership at large.
