COOKEVILLE - Cannon County's boys golf team completed its season in the District 8-A/AA Tournament at the Cookeville Golf Club Wednesday and although the Lions did not have a player advance into the region field they did make strides with a young team in 2011.

Junior Wyatt Goff led the Lions with a 104 on the par 70 course and was 43rd amongst the 78 golfers who teed it up during the district tournament. Goff was followed by teammates Jarrett Melton (114), Brock Francis (116), William Parker (122) and Aaron Bratcher (133).

The Lions finished 13th out of the 15-team field with a team-total 456. They finished ahead of Clarkrange (483) and Red Boiling Springs (500). DeKalb County won the district tournament with a 298, nine shots ahead of second-place Friendship Christian (307). Livingston Academy (313) was third.

"We had several players this year who were participating for the first time or were not in the lineup last year and it showed with up-and-down performances," CCHS Head Boys Golf Coach Ronnie Burks said. "The good thing is that we have several returning players from this year's team and the experience they gained should pay off for them next season if they work hard and stay with it."
