X-Country impressive at invitationals

Cannon County’s boys and girls cross-country teams enjoyed impressive showings during invitationals last week.

Elva Magana continued her outstanding season with two top five finishes. Magana finished third at Franklin County and she finished fourth at the Riverdale Invitational. Both events were 5K.

Jordan Turney led the Lions in both meets, finishing second at Franklin County and 15th at Riverdale.

The Lions finshed third at Franklin County and the girls were second out of seven teams. Magana and Macy Clements medaled in both invites, as did Turney. Devin Burgess finished ninth and medaled at Franklin County.

The Lionettes were steady in their Riverdale run. Magana led all runners with a time of 22:07, finishing fourth overall. Clements (23:10) was 17th overall, followed by Jessica Elmy (28th, 25:27), Sarah Hickman (33rd, 26:04), Lauren Turney (34th, 26:06), Katie Hickman (35th, 26:10) and Kattie Perry (27:27).

Cannon County’s boys finished seventh overall against some of the Midstate’s top teams and they were ahead of powerful Oakland and Siegel.

Turney led the way. He was followed by teammates Jake Burdick (24th, 18:46), Burgess (29th, 19:03), Clay Luker (41st, 19:59), Will Bailey (55th, 20:59), TJ Paul (58th, 21:04), and Umar Rasul (63rd, 21:57.)
