X-country continues strong run

Cannon County’s cross-country teams have been outstanding this fall and continued their strong run in recent meets.

The Lions finished second at the Cookeville All-Comers meet Tuesday (Sept. 17) with 67 points, finishing behind host Cookeville with 26 points. Friendship Christian was third out of eight teams  the field. The Lionettes finished fourth out of eight teams on the girls side.

Marshall McReynolds and Jordan Turney continued to be a strong one-two punch for the Lions. McReynolds finished second overall (out of 54 participants) with a 17:48.00 and Turney was third with an 18:09.00 on the 3.2 mile trek. Jake Burdick also continued his strong breakout season, narrowly missing a Top 10 finish. He was 11th overall with a time of 19:04.00 and medaled. Also aiding the Lions cause was Clay Luker, who finished 21st with a 19:42.00, and T.J. Paul rounded out the scoring. He finished 30th with a 20:26.0. Umar Rasul (33rd, 20:44.00) and Briar Jakes (34th, 21:00.00) also participated in the varsity event for the Lions.

Freshman Hannah Whited turned in another dazzling performance for the Lionettes. Whited finished fourth overall with  a 21:40.00. Her strong performance was supported by Elva Magana finishing eighth overall with a time of 22:53.0 and Macy Clements (15th, 24:08.0) to help key the Lionettes’ strong finish. Kristen McReynolds (24th, 25:05.00) and Katie Hickman (28th, 26;07.00) also factored into the scoring for Cannon County.

Sarah Hickman (29th, 26:14.00) and Autumn King (41st, 27:56.00) also participated in the varsity event for the Lionettes.

Cannon County also had a strong showing in the junior varsity meet. John Frazier finished third overall with a 20:29 in the 5,000-meter event. Devin Gilpatrcik (5th, 20:41.00) and Jake Hoskins (7th, 21:01.00) also enjoyed Top 10 finishes. Tyler Bailey (16th, 22:39), Walker Hatfield (17th, 22:57) and Dakota Grandstaff were amongst the top six finishers for the Lions.

Konner Duke (21st) and Lee Ann Scott (24th) were amongst the Top 30 in the girls junior varsity event.

Double your pleasure

Both the Lions and Lionettes earned team victories at the Warren County All Comers meet and the strong team showing was rewarded with 12 runners earning medals.

Other schools participating in the meet were Warren County, Franklin County, Grundy County and White County. The Lions scored a record low 23 points and the girls scored 47 in their win.

Hannah Whited finished first overall, followed by Elva Magana at second. Sarah Hickman and Katie Hickman alsp medaled for the Lionettes. 

Marshall McReynolds finished first overall on the boys side with a time of 18.16. Teammate Jordan Turney was second with a 18.27. Also earning medals by finishing in the Top 15 overall for the Lions were Clay Luker, Jake Burdick, Briar Jakes, Devin Gilpatrick, T.J. Paul and Umar Rasul.

Lions first at Webb

Cannon County’s boys were first overall at the Webb All Comers meet with 39 points. Second-place Warren County had 106 points, followed by Riverdale with 112.

Marshall McReynolds and Jordan Turney finished first and second, respectively, overall. 

The Lionettes finished second with 67 points. Brentwood Academy won the girls event with 49 points. Hannah Whited turned in a Top 5 finish for the Lionettes.

Teams fare well at Riverdale

Cannon County’s cross country teams stacked up against some of the top teams in the Midstate at the Warrior Invitational. 

The Lions finished fourth out of 12 teams with 138 points. Central Magnet (38) was first, followed by Cookeville (59) and Riverdale (70).

Marshall McReynolds led Cannon County. He finished ninth overall out of 87 participants with a 17:59.74. Teammate Jordan Turney was 16th with a 18:14.02. Also factoring in the scoring for the Lions were Jake Burdick (27th, 18:59.78), Clay Luker (39th, 20:24.40) and Umar Rasul (47th, 21:06.01). T.J. Paul (49th, 21:21.48) and John Frazier (56th, 22:04.94) also participated in the varity event.

The Lionettes were fifth overall, led by freshman Hannah Whited, who turned in another Top 10 finish. Whited was seventh overall with a 21:56.16. Also factoring into the scoring for Cannon County were Elva Magana (14th, 7:19.1), Macy Clements (21st, 23:32.37), Sarah Hickman (35th, 25:27.87) and Kristen McReynolds (39th, 26:07.54). Katie Hickman (46th, 27:07.83) and Autumn King (48th, 27:30.54) also participated in the varsity meet for the Lionettes.
