The Woodbury Police Department is partnering with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) for Booze It and Lose It from Oct. 28 thru Nov.3 , surrounding Halloween. Booze It and Lose It is a statewide campaign to increase impaired-driving enforcement and reduce fatal crashes.

The Woodbury Police Department will increase patrols and have extra officers on the street during this period in an attempt to keep impaired drivers off the streets.

"We are stressing the dangers of driving impaired to our community," Chief Lowell Womack said. "Drunk driving is a massive problem in the United States, with more than 10,000 people dying annually. If your out on the roads and you see someone driving drunk, please call us. You could help save a life."

Increased state and national messaging about the dangers of drunk driving, coupled with increased sobriety checkpoints and high visibility enforcement, aim to drastically reduce the number of drunk-driving crashes, injuries, and fatalities this year.

The consequences of a single DUI conviction for a first-time offender in the state of Tennessee may include costly fines, court costs, legal fees, jail time, mandatory drug and alcohol treatment, and/or the installation of an ignition interlock device in his/her vehicle.

The THSO provides grant funding to support Woodbury Police Department's increased enforcement efforts during the Booze It and Lose It holiday campaign. For more information about the THSO, please visit www.tntrafficsafety.org.
