A joint investigation by the Woodbury Police Department and Cannon County Sheriff’s Department has led to numerous charges against a Woodbury woman.

On Feb. 4, CCSD Deputy Matthew Parsley responded to 541 Richardson Road in reference to a burglary which had already occurred. Upon arrival he was met by Roberta Duke, who stated she had left her residence and had returned an hour later to find that her front door had been kicked in and her Nintendo Wii had been taken.

Duke stated she believed Kayla (Marie) Chumley had taken the Wii due to her financial status. Deputy Parsley then went to TLC Apartments and spoke with Chumley and obtained a statement. Investigator Anthony Young was notified of the situation and also responded.

After obtaining the statement and following an intensive investigation by Investigator Young and Deputy Parsley, it was discovered that Chumley did have possession of the stolen equipment. The Nintendo Wii and three game controllers were recovered.

Deputy Parsley made an attempt to serve arrest warrants on Chumley on Feb. 10, but was unsuccessful. The property belonging to Roberta Duke was returned to her that day.

Later on Feb. 10, Chumley went to the sheriff’s department and while there was served three arrest warrants by Deputy Lawrence Avera. She was then booked and incarcerated.

Investigator Young and WPD Assistant Chief Kevin Mooneyham interviewed Chumley about the theft of the Wii on Feb. 11. At first Chumley said she did not know anything about the game system. She then stated she did not steal the game system but named another individual who she said did.

Investigator Young and Assistant Chief Mooneyham than asked Chumley about another theft which had occurred at the apartments in which she was living. Chumley first stated she knew nothing about this theft. The officers then recovered a Canon camera from Shotgun Country Pawn that was identified by the victim. The pawn ticket came back to Kayla Chumley as the person who pawned the camera.

Chumley remains behind bars with an initial court date of March 1. Charges against her include theft over $500, theft under $400, filing a false report, burglary, vandalism. Bond is set at $15,500.
