Webb Invites Community To Visitors’ Day

On Monday, Jan. 18, The Webb School will open its campus for prospective students and their families for its annual Visitors’ Day.

The daylong event begins at 9 a.m. with registration and breakfast and concludes at 3 p.m. with individual student interviews.

The schedule includes campus tours, class visits for prospective students, informational panels for parents, lunch at the Grace Follin Dining Hall, as well as details on boarding, admissions, financial aid and academic programs.

“Families will spend valuable time interacting with current students, faculty and current parents,” said Matt Anderson, Director of Operations in Admissions. “This event more than any other gives them the opportunity to truly see what it’s like to be a student at Webb.”

Newly named Head of School Raymond S. Broadhead of Burlington, N.C. will be on hand to meet and greet prospective Webb families. Broadhead officially takes the Webb helm on July 1, 2010. Currently, Gordon Bondurant of Charleston, S.C. is serving as interim head of school.

According to Anderson, January is a great time to visit Webb, as the school’s priority registration date is March 1. And, because Jan. 18 is a national holiday, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, students enrolled in public schools should have the day off and be able to attend with their parents.

Last year the January Visitors’ Day hosted 40 students and their families, and school enrollment jumped in the fall.

“Enrollment increased by 6 percent overall for 2009-2010 compared to 2008-09 enrollment,” Anderson said. “We even had to start a waiting list for sixth-grade.”

For those who can’t make it to the January event, Webb will host a second Visitors’ Day on Feb. 15, 2010.

The Webb School is an independent college preparatory school for grades 6-12. The oldest continuously operating private school of its kind in the South, the school is known for its dual emphasis on academic excellence and character development.
