Walk for Diabetes set for Oct. 20

The Middle Tennessee Chapter of JDRF (formerly known as Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) will hold one of the area's largest walk-a-thons on Saturday, October 20.

With fun, free, and educational activities for the whole family, the Murfreesboro Walk to Cure Diabetes will take place at Middle Tennessee Medical Center, with registration starting at 8:30 a.m. and the walk to begin at 10:00 a.m.

Over 1000 concerned community members, family, and friends affected by Type 1 diabetes are expected to come together for this year's walk.  There is no cost to attend, but walkers are encouraged to preregister online and raise funds for diabetes research.

Complimentary breakfast and coffee will be provided, and there are many activities and educational opportunities for the entire family. Local families dealing with the disease first-hand, as well as experts from the local chapter, will be on hand to discuss how impactful the walk is for the organization and how the funds raised will help to find a cure for this disease.

Generously donating their time to this year's event is Terry Walker from MidSouth Bank, serving as 2012 Murfreesboro Walk to Cure Diabetes Chairman, along with Jim Genet from Syngii, a 2012 Murfreesboro Walk to Cure Diabetes Champion.
