The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recently announced that individuals have until May 17, 2021 to file their taxes. Thanks to our incredible and dedicated IRS certified tax prep volunteers, we are extending our free tax prep service, VITA, to accommodate households utilizing the extension.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to households that earned $66,000 or less in the previous year. VITA is a financial stability initiative of the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties.

At VITA Sites, IRS-certified United Way volunteers provide free, basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.

In 2020, VITA volunteers helped file over 1,000 returns, resulting in an economic impact of over $1.8 million.
