Vehicle stolen, found abandoned

A Woodbury man who reported his vehicle stolen was able to reclaim it two days later.

Cannon County Sheriff's Deputy Tyl Shawyer was dispatched to an address on Sunny Slope Rd. on Feb. 9 for a report of a stolen vehicle. The victim stated he left his vehicle, a 2013 black GMC pickup, running in his driveway for a short time to warm up. When he walked outside he observed the truck being driven away from his residence.

Deputy Shawyer entered the vehicle into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) as stolen.

On Feb. 11, Deputy Shawyer was dispatched to an report of an abandoned vehicle at Living Springs Church on Hollow Springs Rd. A records check of the vehicle showed it to be the one reported as stolen. The vehicle did not appear to have any damage and the keys were in the ignition.

A witness told Deputy Shawyer the truck had been parked on church property for a day, which he thought was suspicious, and called the sheriff's department.

The owner of the truck was notified of the recovery and was allowed to reclaim the vehicle.
