'Unity In The Community' Planned Monday At Election Office

Whether you are a Democrat, Republican, or an Independent, we, the concerned citizens of the Short Mountain Community, have united to seek answers ... Why the Short Mountain polling place has been moved from Short Mountain School.

There was mention in the Cannon County Courier dated January 3, 2012 a savings of $6,641.00 per year by moving Short Mountain Polling place. But according to the minutes of the November 7, 2011 Cannon County Election Commission meeting, the savings was $4,500.00.

Was this decision to move our polling location made in haste? Did the Commission think nobody in this community would mind? Did they write us off as a bunch of hillbillies? We certainly hope not.

Regardless of your political choice, the Short Mountain Community has always showed a strong presence in Cannon County.

Other communities such as Auburntown, Bradyville, Readyville, Eastside, Woodland, Gassaway, Westside and the city of Woodbury, please beware ... if it can happen to us at Short Mountain, it can easily happen to you!

One last note: If they can vote to close your community polling place, how will you feel if they voted to close your community school?

The concerned citizens of the Short Mountain Community would like to urge all citizens to attend the Cannon County Election Commission meeting on Monday, January 9, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. at the Election Office.

This public announcement was paid for by the concerned citizens of the Short Mountain Community.
