COOKEVILLE – This time of year, it is always nice to get something you are not expecting.

That is exactly what will happen for persons who qualify for commodity distribution from the Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency (UCHRA).

By having a surplus of food, commodities will be doubled for the months of November and December to those who present a valid UCHRA commodity card.

Phyllis Bennett, Executive Director for UCHRA said, “There are many people who need help with the way the economy is and this is our way of trying to reach those people.”

A person may receive commodities for three (3) households if valid cards are presented at the distribution.

The UCHRA Commodities Program is part of the U. S. D. A.’s Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program and is available to all eligible recipients regardless of race, color, national origin, age, sex, or disability.

“Having this happen now will make the holidays for some a little brighter,” stated Rebecca Harris, UCHRA Transportation/ Services Director in charge of the commodities program, she added, “We are just happy we are able to do this.” The double distributions will start November 3, 2009 and continue until the end of the year.

If you feel you qualify for this program, please contact the UCHRA office in your county.

Cannon County's distribution will be on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Cannon County Community Center located at the Fairgrounds.
