Temperatures for Friday night football games remain warm heading into the second week of September and the fourth week of the high school football season in Tennessee. More than 160 games are scheduled for this weekend.
Many teams will see opponents this week that they haven't matched up with in a while. Only 24 schools will face region opponents.
TSSAA encourages everyone -- administrators, coaches, officials, and fans -- to work together to follow the protocols that local host schools have in place so that our student-athletes have the opportunity to enjoy athletic competition throughout this new year. Although most TSSAA mandates from a year ago are no longer in place, it is important that visiting teams and spectators adhere to the rules or requirements instituted by local school boards, municipalities and other government agencies where they are traveling. TSSAA believes that every adult and every participant should do their part and conduct themselves safely and thoughtfully so that the schools can provide as many opportunities as possible for the student-athletes this fall.

Historical Matchups
Marshall Co. at Tullahoma: The visitor in this series has won the last four contests dating back to Marshall County's 42-35 victory on the road in 2017.
Oak Ridge at Farragut: In the last five meetings, the host team has won every game except in 2018 when Farragut defeated Oak Ridge by six, 20-14.
East Hickman at Stewart Co.: These schools have met each of the last five season, but the last time the home team won in the series was 2016 when Stewart Co. defeated East Hickman 48-41.
Haywood at Lexington: These two teams met in the state semifinals last season, where Haywood claimed a 17-14 win. Haywood would finish state runners-up to Elizabethton in the 2020 BlueCross Bowl.
DeKalb Co. at Watertown: DeKalb Co. has lost each of the last four meetings in this series, but the margin has continued to tighten from season to season. Watertown's margin of victory was 38 in 2017, 34 in 2018, 22 in 2019 and only seven points in 2020.
Jefferson Co. at Knoxville Halls: This contest is a rematch of a memorable state semifinal meeting from 1986 in which Halls defeated Jefferson Co. 10-0. The win would springboard Knoxville Halls to a victory over Germantown in the state finals to claim the school's first and only state football championship.
Knoxville West at Fulton: Last season, West snapped a long Fulton winning streak in this series with a resounding 22-0 victory. Fulton is 4-1 against West in the last five meetings.
Brentwood at Henry Co.: These teams have battled four times since 2015 with the home team claiming victory each time. Henry Co. won at home by six points in 2015, to which Brentwood responded with a 25-point at their school the next year. Henry Co. again won at home in 2019, by seven points, with a 38-point Brentwood win at home in 2020.
South Fulton at West Carroll: West Carroll has won four of the last five meetings against South Fulton. The last South Fulton victory was a road win in 2016, 42-20.
Harpeth at Sycamore: Four of the last five meetings have been decided by 11 points or fewer.
Maryville at Alcoa: The last time Alcoa won at home in this annual rivalry was 2009. Maryville has won nine of the last 10 meetings.

If a school is forced to cancel a contest due to COVID-19 this football season, the game will be considered a "no contest" and the team will not receive a loss on their schedule. The school who is able to play will receive a win for playoff seeding purposes. They may schedule a replacement opponent, but the result of the newly scheduled contest must count in the school's overall record in place of the "COVID-19" win. A school's overall, regular season record cannot include more than 10 results.
Contests where both teams were unable to play due to COVID-19 are considered "no-contests" and have been removed from the schedules.
