The Cannon County Trap Team was formed in 2017. All students at Cannon County High School are encouraged to come out for the team as Wade McMackins, the current coach, allows all that come out for the team to participate.

At this time there are 31 students on the team. The high school has 22 while the Junior High program includes eight members.

The Junior High team finished fifth in the region and also fifth in the state. Regions are coming up June 2 in Nashville. The State meet will also be in Nashville on June 19. The Nationals will be in July in Ohio.

The Trap program recently introduced a new indoor DryFire practice opportunity. The computer based program uses a laser so there's no shotgun shells or recoil.

The students practice on an 18-foot wide screen and is perfect for the students who are in their first season.

The biggest expense for the trap teams are shotgun shells and range fees for the actual meets.

Anyone wishing to donate shells, or money toward the range fees or if anyone would like to join the trap teams themselves can call McMackins at 615-563-4078 for more information.
