Trading Post Chat

TURN ON THE ANIMAL PLANET, MOM.....Ok....Ok....Don't you know our show is on? Yep...that's what I hear on my day off....my five cats at home...love that show. No kidding, all five of them line up and actually watch that show. I guess it is all the meowing and hissing they hear that keeps their attention.
Oh, but then it is: CATS 101. Thank goodness we have more than one television in the house...because the living room one is totally taken for most of the Sunday morning. Now, if they could only get rid of the ants in my kitchen!!!

What have all of you been up to over the summer? Aside from sweating and suffocation on our hot, hot days...are you taking trips, watching Little League games, swimming, fishing, boating, tending gardens...well, if you haven't come to visit me at the Short Mountain Trading Post on Short Mountain Highway toward Woodbury...you need to do so. All the vendors are having really nice summer sales in their booths...especially the Loft with 40 percent off everything!! We are open Thursdays thru Saturdays from 10 to 5....so c'mon in!!!! Then you can take the tour at The Distillery and have lunch or dinner at the Stillhouse Restaurant. Both require reservations so check their Facebook for more info.

We had a lot of out of towners ... and quite a few who mentioned that they are almost at the empty nest point in their lives and would really like to move to Tennessee. They really love it here. I seconded that motion. JD and I are very happy here as well and feel that it was one of the best decisions we ever made. Thanks to all of you folks, we feel most welcomed and fortunate to be part of this area.

I heard something really nice today...folks were talking about raising their children and how important it is to give them the right advice, be a good example and encourage them to do the best they can at all they do. The statement was: You don't have to give me the best...just give me YOUR best. The gentleman that said this is a coach and a father. A good man and I could tell how much he cared about the young people today. It IS important folks to give these kids a chance, respect them and what THEY go through and praise them. Listen, they are the future of our country...

I hope all of the DADS out there had a great Father's Day. Aunt Martha always gets Uncle Festus cards from all the pets. And every year, he asks Martha: Now Just HOW do those animals get to the store to buy these things? Martha just sighs and says: Oh, it IS a long hike for them and they ARE exhausted when they get back home, but it's all worth it just to get you those cards!!! With one more swig of the Short Mountain Distillery Moonshine he leans back in his recliner and smiles. Cousin Clarence takes his dad, Clyde, fishing every Father's Day. Cousin Annie tells them that they better catch something because that is what she's planning for supper. Most of the time, they end up going to the Fish Market and take home at least somebody's catch of the day. I fear the day when Annie finds out just what they have been doing all this time...(gulp).

By the way, don't forget Fido in the summer...make sure doggies have plenty of water and give 'em an ice cube once an awhile. My poor Max got a hold of a nasty bee and it stung him on the lips. Uh...ever wonder what plastic surgery looks like on a dog's muzzle? He was a mess...and instead of barking, all he could do was flap his lips. I ended up giving him a Popsicle and antihistamine and he recovered nicely. Poor baby!! He gets a bath today...I am tired of him scratching his back in the middle of the road in front of all the neighbors and all the unmentionable things he chooses to do in their yards and driveways. Sometimes, I just look the other way and say: WHAT DOG ??!!

HEY...I hope you remembered to stop and see us over the Fourth of July weekend! I was going to go to my class reunion in Ohio during that time, but realized it was more important to stay here and visit with all of you and help JD and the vendors at the Trading Post. (Don't tell anybody, but there goes another leak in my bucket list !!) Does that happen to you guys too?

Well, hey listen...see you soon...continue to enjoy your summer...come see us at the Barn...take best of care of your family and friends...smile...laugh...don't litter...and sit down and enjoy the VIEW as they say.
Chat with you next week.....

Hugs, Savannah
