Three Smiths Charged In Separate Incidents

By coincidence, three people with the last name of Smith were charged in unrelated incidents recently.

• John Charles Smith, 343 Smith Rd., Bradyville, was charged with DUI, Vandalism and Violation of the Implied Consent Law on June 12 by Cannon County Sheriff’s Deputy Travis Turney.

The deputy was dispatched to the area of 8640 Ivy Bluff Rd. at around 11 p.m. following a report of a reckless driver.

Upon arrival he along with Deputy Seth Perry spoke with Herbert Cobb, who stated that John Smith had driven through his yard in a green Ford Explorer, causing damage to the grass and a shrub next to the house. Cobb also stated Smith was intoxicated.

A search of the area located Smith in a field located at 517 Young Rd. The residents at that address had called to report that a vehicle matching the description given by Cobb was in the field and that the driver was intoxicated.

Smith was found behind the wheel of the vehicle. When he exited the vehicle he was very unsteady on his feet and his speech was slurred. He had a small laceration on his head. Smith refused to submit to field sobriety or blood alcohol tests.

Bond was set at $5,000. Initial court date is July 10.

• Jonathan Jake Smith, 319 Jay Circle, Woodbury, was charged with DUI 1st Offense and Open Container on June 16 by Woodbury Patrolman John House.

Officer House initiated the traffic stop on Jay Circle. Smith was unable to perform standard field sobriety tests as demonstrated, according to the arrest warrant.

An open container of Little Penguin wine was located in the vehicle Smith was driving.

Bond was set at $1,500. Initial court date is July 24.

• Jerry Glenn Smith, Jr., 7635 Hollow Springs Rd., Bradyville, was served a warrant charging him with Joyriding on June 16. The purported victim alleges that Smith drove a vehicle without permission. Bond was set at $1,000. Initial court date is Aug. 7.
