Three Days, Over 300 Early Voters

Three days into the early voting period for the August 5 County General Election and State Primaries, over 300 registered voters have cast their ballot in Cannon County.

The local election office reported today that 99 people voted Friday, the first day of early voting, 99 voted Saturday and 112 today.

"It's been going remarkably well," Administrator of Elections Stan Dobson said of the process. "We had a few issues at the start on Friday but since then the lines have been moving quickly, and voters have been moving in and out at a relatively rapid pace."

The early voting period ends on July 31.

Early voting times are as follows: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays are 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon each day. Tuesday July 20th will be 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, July 22nd will be 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Tuesday, July 27th will be 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and Thursday, July 29th will be 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Dobson encouraged voters to take advantage of the early voting period to avoid the usually rush on election day. There are over 8,000 registered voters in the county.

Anyone having questions about voting or the election can call the Election Commission Office at 563-5650. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
