THP looking for witnesses in fatal crash

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is seeking the public’s help in locating a vehicle and driver that may be connected to a fatal hit-and-run crash in Benton County. The crash occurred on Interstate 40 westbound at mile marker 128 during the early morning hours on Thursday.

 

The crash occurred at approximately 1:10 a.m. this morning.  Carol Ann Williamson, 56, of Huntington, W. Va., was driving a 2003 Pontiac Vibe westbound on Interstate 40 when an unknown vehicle hit her from the rear. The impact caused the vehicle to spin off the roadway, strike a culvert and overturn several times.  The at-fault vehicle did not stop.

 

Ms. Williamson was injured and transported to a local hospital. Her passenger, Alice Williamson, 83, of Huntington, W. Va., was killed in the crash.

 

The THP’s preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect vehicle may have been a tractor trailer.
