HOT COFFEE AND DONUTS FOR VETERANS

The Farm Bureau Women will have hot coffee and donuts for the Veterans during line-up for the Veterans Day Parade, Saturday, November 10, 2012, at the Middle Tennessee Electric Company parking lot, at 12:00 to 1:00 PM. The Parade lines up along the by-pass route from 12:00 to 1:00. The Parade starts at 1:00 pm sharp. This truly great act of kindness to honor our Veterans and to say thank you for their service, will be greatly appreciated by all Veterans. Veterans always love a good cup of hot coffee and a donut. Thanks to the Farm Bureau Women for remembering our Veterans. God Bless you, God Bless our Veterans, and God Bless this great country we live in.

MEET REPRESENTATIVE PODY
Representative Mark Pody will be meeting every third Friday at the Cannon County Senior Center from 1:00p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Anyone that needs to talk to him is welcomed.

DISASTER EXERCISE SET NOV. 6
 On Tuesday, Nov. 6, local emergency agencies along with Stones River Hospital will conduct a disaster exercise. The drill will take place at Cannon County High School and will begin at approximately 8:30 a.m. and conclude at approximately 11 a.m. During this exercise the public should expect to see emergency vehicles and personnel working in the exercise areas as well as mock disaster victims.

COATS FOR CANNON
Woodbury Lions Club will collect coats for Cannon County during the entire month of October.
Please bring clean or new coats sized for children to adults. Put them on hangers if possible.
These coats will be given to anyone in need of a good, warm coat on Nov. 10 at the Woodbury Lions Club Building on Lehman Street. If your organization would like to participate, the Lions Club will arrange a pick up.
The drop off is at Sue Patrick’s CPA Office, 109 Lester St., Woodbury, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

UNITED WAY RECRUITING
NON-PROFITS
  The United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties is in the process of recruiting non-profit organizations to submit interest forms to receive grant support up to $10,000. Organizations that have a 501(c)3 IRS status that wish to partner with United Way for its next fiscal year may submit a letter of intent on the organization's website at www.uwrutherford.org. All letters of intent must submitted by October 31, 2012, for consideration.
  The program that is requesting partnership with United Way must serve at least one of United Way's impact areas of education, income, health or rebuilding lives and provide service in Rutherford and/or Cannon county.
  Organizations submitting a letter of intent will be notified no later than November 30, 2012, as to whether they will be extended an invitation to apply to partner with United Way for the 2013-2014 fiscal year. Applications will be made available to those organizations in December.

BLOOD DRIVE HONORS BRANDEN
A blood drive in honor of Branden Schwartz is set for noon to 6 p.m. on Nov. 15 at the Lions Club Building in Woodbury.

SOLES4SOULS
Start cleaning out your closets!!! November 2012 will be the 2nd annual “Soles4Souls” shoe drive. Soles 4 Souls collects new and used shoes and gives to those in need all over the world. They have donated over 15 million pairs of shoes to people in need.
Last year, Cannon County donated over 600 pairs of shoes and we hope to exceed that number this year. All county schools and the courthouse will have a drop off box during the entire month of November. Please make sure your shoes are bound together by the shoelaces or rubber bands.

CHURCH SUPPER TIME CHANGE
Clear Fork United Methodist Church’s supper will be held 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 and Nov. 24. Meal is choice of catfish or chicken tenders, choice of three beams, hush puppies, french fries, slaw, drink and dessert for $8. Children under 3 are free. Carry-out is also available. COVENANT KEEPER’S FIRST SERVICE
Pastor Wes and Joyce Frazier invites the public to attend the church’s first service at 10 a.m. Nov. 11. Refreshments will follow a special guests for kids featuring a clown named Inita Witness. Formerly Woodbury Church of God, the church is located at 745 Doolittle Road. Phone is 615-563-8372. Services are 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday with life training classes, for all ages, set for 7 p.m. Wednesdays.

FAMILY HISTORY
Family History is a special relationship with your past family members. Stop by the Genealogy building at 213 High Street next to the post office any Monday or Thursday 9:00 a. m. to 3:00 p. m. to get started or add to a family file.
Help is available with forms, books and a copy machine. Beginners need to bring names, date of birth and a spiral note book for notes. Also help and suggestions on how to organize family pictures. Donated family files are greatly appreciated.
A Parker Family Book is in the progress and the dead line for family information and pictures is the last of September. Don't let your family get left out. So far we have over 400 pages and this is not counting pictures and index. The book will go on sale after the first of the year.

2012 RESCUE FUND DRIVE
  The 2012 Countywide Rescue Fund Drive is now under way.
   Some of the squad’s tools are approaching 30 years of service and are in need of replacement. For as little as 10 cents per day ($35) you can make a difference.

READYVILLE FCE TO MEET TUESDAY
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, the Readyville FCE organization will meet for a Fall Fieldltrip. The group will meet at 10:00 am at the Publix parking lot across from the Veterans Hospital on Memorial Blvd. Please park close behind the Kangaroo Gas Station.
The group will lunch at the CooCoo Rest in Lebanon and then travel on to the ToJo Creek Gourd Farm for a tour, lecture and holiday craft.

EARLY LEARNING
The United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties' Success By 6 initiative has launched a new phase of its Active Learning campaign that will target pre-kindergarten children. Active Learning is unique, comprehensive educational programming in the areas of math, reading, and science. The programming is designed to be used within pre-kindergarten facilities, at home with families or in any educational capacity. 
The programming materials are accessible to the public through the local United Way's website at www.uwrutherford.org and will feature new content on a quarterly basis.
Success By 6 focuses on early childhood development for the community, based on the principles of collaboration and prevention. The goal of Success By 6 is to ensure that all children develop the emotional, social, cognitive, and physical capacities and skills they need to achieve well being, and be ready to learn when they start kindergarten.
