"Reading is one of my favorite past times and I wanted to share the joy of reading with others," said Amy Swartz, newest hire of the literacy non-profit, Read To Succeed. Swartz, RTS Family Literacy Coordinator, decided she couldn't pass up the opportunity to spread the joy she takes in reading and connecting with a wide variety of people.

As  Family Literacy Coordinator, Swartz arranges RTS family events in Rutherford County and Murfreesboro City elementary schools. "It's fun to see the kids get excited about the activities and the books that they take home." She added, "I love that it is a time where the family members participate with each other because there are so many things these days that separate families rather than bringing them together."

This is not Swartz's first involvement with a non-profit organization nor is it her first teaching experience. With a background in physical therapy, Swartz has held a variety of positions such as a staff therapist, hospital administrator, and working at an elementary school. She also has a master's degree in Business Administration. She said, "The school and several of the healthcare facilities where I have worked were non-profits, but they were all much larger than Read To Succeed. I have been amazed at what Read To Succeed has been able to accomplish with such a small staff. Our volunteers and community supporters are certainly the key to making that happen! At RTS everything is a collaborative effort." Before becoming the Family Literacy Coordinator, Swartz volunteered at RTS tutoring adults who sought help reaching their literacy goals.
