Smithville Man Charged With Assault, Kidnapping, Vandalism



A Smithville resident is due to appear in Cannon County General Sessions Court on Dec. 7 after being arrested on various charges from incidents which allegedly occurred on Nov. 4 and Nov. 12.

The defendant is Mark Steven Lawson, 1243 Haley Rd., Smithville.

The female victim, of Woodbury, and Jonathan Randall Hillis, 1111 Crain Rd., McMinnville, took out affidavits of complaint against  Mark Lawson on Nov. 4 and Nov. 12 alleging:

Domestic Assault: Mark Lawson did initiate an argument with the female victim by throwing her on the couch and choking her. Mark Lawson did forcefully restrain her and threaten to kill her.

Kidnapping: When the female victim was trying to leave the residence, Mark Lawson physically grabbed her and dragged her back into the residence against her own free will.

Vandalism: Mark Lawson did cause the female victim's cellular phone to break by placing the phone in both hands and breaking it in half.

Assault: Mark Lawson did cause Jonathan Hillis and the femle victim to fear serious bodily harm. Mark Lawson did contact Jonathan Hillis on Nov. 12 and state to him via voicemail and phone contact that he was going to come to his residence and shoot him.

Domestic Assault: Cannon County Sheriff's Deputy Tommy Barker charged Mark Lawson with domestic assault on Nov. 12. It is alleged that Mark Lawson got into an altercation with the female victim. Mark Lawson was advised prior to the incident by bond conditions not to have any contact with the femle victim. She was struck in the face causing damage to the inside of her bottom lip. She was also grabbed on her left arm by Mark Lawson to drag her out of a vehicle.

Total bond for Mark Lawson was set at $352,000.
