Sheriff's Deputies Deal With Drunks, Druggies And Dogs

Following are the latest arrest and incident reports as recorded by the Cannon County Sheriff's Department and the Woodbury Police Department. Readers are advised that an allegation or report of a crime does not necessarily constitute a crime, or that one took place. All persons accused of crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Cannon County Sheriff's Department

Deputy Reed Bryson responded to a theft at 7107 Hollow Springs Rd. on March 18, 2010. There Chris Haley reported that $550 was missing from his toolbox. The money had been given to him by Bob Bradford to pay for car repair supplies. Junior Pickett came by to have some work done and apparently took the money. A warrant was issued and Mr. Pickett was arrested. On March 22, Mr. Haley found an envelope in his mailbox for the amount missing. Haley called the CCSO and said he'd been payed back. Mr. Pickett denied having paid Haley back and asked why he was arrested in the first place.

Deputy Brandon Mimms took a report at Ronald Hayes Road from Mr. Hayes and his tenants who live down the street on March 16, 2010. Mr. Hayes had asked his tenants to keep their dogs away from his cattle but they continued to chase them so Mr. Hayes fired at them with a shotgun. Only one dog was visibly damaged but they all seemed like no serious harm had been done.

Deputy Brandon Mimms responded to a house fire at 345 Petro Road on March 16, 2010. Some unfinished work on the central heat unit had caused the system to catch fire and fill the house with smoke.

Deputy Brandon Mimms responded to a trespassing call at 10342 Jim Cummins Hwy. Vernon Cook reported that Robin Cook was on his property and he didn't want him there. Mimms made contact with Robin and told him to leave, which Robin said was fine and he wouldn't come back.

Lt. Brad Hall served a warrant on Vickie Marsh for court ordered jail time at the CCSO on March 16, 2010.

Deputy Barker transported Christopher Allen Hoover from Rutherford Co. Jail to the Cannon County Jail and served him with a warrant for violation of probation on March 17, 2010.

Deputies Tommy Barker and Patrick Fann were dispatched to Bradyville Rd. for a truck doing doughnuts in the highway on March 18, 2010. En route to the location, Barker got behind a Ford Truck who crossed the yellow line three times before turning on Curlee Church Road. A traffic stop was initiated and a female passenger attempted to run away but got back in the cab. The driver, Richard McLaughlin was noticeably drunk and failed to present a Tennessee license -- insisting that his military ID allowed him to drive in Tennessee. Mr. McLaughlin was found to have a revoked license, failed a field sobriety test, and refused to consent to a BAC test. Mr. McLaughin was charged accordingly.

Det. Charlie Wilder Served an arrest warrant on Jack M. Wilson Jr. at the CCSO on March 17, 2010.

Deputy Eric Moss responded to a structure fire at 889 Youngblood Rd. on March 18, 2010. James Kock reported that his barn caught fire while he was burning trash. The barn was burned to the ground.

Deputies Tommy Barker and Patrick Fann arrested Christopher Lafever and Jessica Stephens on March 18, 2010. The two were sitting in a vehicle on Jimtown Road with the lights off when officers approached. Neither had ID and Lafever provided a fake name. Deputies discovered .25 grams of methamphetamine in the vehicle. Lafevers was charged with outstanding capias warrant, driving on revoked 5th offense, simple possession, and criminal impersonation. Jessica Stevens was charged with simple possession.

Deputy Anthony Young mediated a dispute between J.L. Parton and Bobby J. Davenport on March 19, 2010. Davenport was on Parton's property (where he had previously arranged to keep his horses) removing some fence he'd put up. Parton was fine with this but said he didn't want Davenport on the property again.

Deputy Anthony Young took a report of a stolen shotgun on March 20, 2010. James Barrett stated that Perry Stembridge had taken an expensive limited edition Browning shotgun from his residence.

Deputy Matthew Parsley responded to a vehicle in the ditch on Hwy. 53 on March 21st, 2010. There operator Layne Spaulding stated he had miscalculated the turn and gone into the ditch. Mr. Spaulding smelled like alcohol and failed field sobriety tests. He consented to a blood test and was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Brandon Gullett was dispatched to Hwy. 53 for two drunk males in the road on March 21, 2010. Their vehicle had apparently missed the turn and gone into the ditch. Donald Carl Stewart reported that he was drunk and was taken into custody and charged with public intoxication.

Deputies Brandon Mimms and Patrick Fann served an arrest warrant on Melissa Brown for violation of probation at 4822 Hollow Springs Rd. on March 22, 2010.

Woodbury Police Department

On Friday March 19, 2010 Jeremy Lynn Tenpenny was charged with Reckless Endangerment and Disorderly Conduct after putting Jeffrey Allen Banta in a headlock and hitting him in the face as he drove a vehicle.

Officer Tracey Stoetzel took a report of identity theft from Dennis and Dawn Starling on March 21, 2010. Seven unauthorized charges averaging about $215 were made on their account. All but one were in the New York State area. A copy of the report was given to the couple as per the bank's instructions.

Jimmy Simmons reported his Colt AR 15 Model SP1 was missing on March 19, 2010. Simmons noticed the weapon missing a week earlier, but figured he misplaced it. The weapon never turned up. Simmons reported that a number of people are in and out of his basement. The rifle has a splash of paint on the left side of the receiver and also has a triangular front side. Simmons has since installed a dead-bolt.

Officer Lowell Womack responded to a breakin that had already occurred at 915 S. McCrary St. on March 20, 2010. There James Rollins reported that someone had taken $1300 in cash from his dresser. He said that everyone they know would have known where the money was. A cigarette was found in the ashtray that was not there when the couple left that morning.

Jodie Marie Bogard was charged with Driving Without a License on March 17, 2010. Ms. Bogard only has her learner's permit.

Isreal Murin was charged with operating a motor vehicle without his court mandated ignition interlock device on March 19, 2010.

Jessica Nichole Davis was charged with driving without a license on March 21, 2010.

Sergeant Kevin Mooneyham responded to an attempted auto theft at Woodbury Health Care. There Christy Jones reported that a couple of fellow employees had seen a white male in her car at approx. 0700. When Ms. Jones went to the car she found the ignition switch detached and it looked like the suspect had tried to take the radio. The other employees reported that the suspect was wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt and left in a dark green four door Pontiac Grand Am with something written in yellow in the back.
