It was a slow week in terms of prospective candidates entering this year's General Election for county offices August 5 — until the very end.

Friday brought the addition of one candidate each for both the Cannon County sheriff and trustee races.

Jack Miller picked up the necessary paperwork to attempt to qualify for the sheriff's position from the Cannon County Election Commission Office.

There are now four prospective candidates for that job, including incumbent Billy Nichols, Darrell Young and Howard Mike Grosch.

Wayne Prater also obtained candidate paperwork Friday, and will be attempting to be on the ballot for the trustee's position. He joins incumbent James Maxwell, Dotty Duggin, Brenda Witty, Michael Nichols and Nolan Travis as persons vying to be elected in August.

Also Friday, Russell Paschal removed himself from contention for Constable, District One.

The deadline for turning in qualifying petitions is April 1 at noon.
