The Commander of The American Legion Post 279 in Woodbury, Tennessee, Bobby E. Ferrell, wants to start a "Sons of the American Legion" Squadron, to be part of Post 279.

Membership eligibility:  All male descendants, adopted sons and stepsons of members of the American Legion and such male descendants of veterans who died in service during World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, and Persian Gulf, during the delimiting periods set forth in Article IV, Sectin 1, of the National Constitution of the American Legion; or who died subsequent to their honorable discharge from such service, shall be eligible for membership in the "Sons of The American Legion".

Commander Ferrell wants to get the word out to those men who want to start their own, Squadron of Sons of the American Legion with American Legion Post 279 in Woodbury. This Squadron would have their own separate organization, emblem, and uniform. The Squadron has a 5-Point Program of Service; Patriotism, Citizenship, Discipline, Leadership, and Legionism.

The Squadron members conduct their own programs, such as volunteer programs, youth programs, and assist Post 279 in all activities; they become part of the total team, the Hilton Stone American Legion Post 279, the Auxillary, and the Sons of the American Legion. It takes 10 members to start the Squadron.

This is a great way to carry on that family tradition of honorable service to your country and to your community. Make your Dad or Grandad proud.

We are planning to have a quest speaker come and talk to those interested in forming a new "Squadron" at our meeting on Thursday the 19th of July, at 6:30PM, at the Senior Citizens Center in Woodbury. If this can be arranged, details will be published in the Cannon Courier and on WBRY.
