About a month ago, Mike Young opened a car wash business on Greenbriar Street in Woodbury. Come Wednesday, his enterprise may be all washed up.

That's because Tuesday night, at its regular monthly meeting at Woodbury Town Hall, the Woodbury Planning Commission determined the business was operating in violation of town ordinances.

According to the planners, Big Mike's Car Wash is operating a business in an area which is zoned residential, not commercial, and is also operating without a business license.

For those reasons, planners requested Woodbury Mayor Harold Patrick to ask Chief of Police Tony Burnett to contact Young and have him cease operations immediately.

In other business at Tuesday's meeting, the planning commission decided to pursue regulations for on-street parking in new subdivisions.

Town officials have received complaints in recent months about cars being parked along the street in newer subdivisions, particularly Auburn Hills, causing traffic problems.

In addition to posing problems for neighbors, on-street parking can impede the travel of emergency vehicles and road crews, officials said.

Planning Commission Staff Representative Charles Brown said that he will prepare new regulations governing on-street parking, which will include language that developers of new subdivisions must provide an additional lane of traffic where on-street parking is desired and, absent an extra lane, parking on the street shall not be permitted.

Mayor Patrick said that once those ordinances are in place covering new subdivisions, they may be extended to additional subdivision areas within the city by the town council.
