Patrick Picks Peterson For Town Attorney Position

When Woodbury Mayor Harold Patrick retired as Cannon County Clerk and Master a few months ago, a vacancy was created in that position.

Chancellor Robert Corlew selected local attorney Bill Bryson for the job.

Bryson, however, has also been the attorney for the Town of Woodbury for many years, and he was unable to serve in both positions.

Therefore, Bryson has submitted his resignation as city attorney, which created another vacancy.

Patrick said Monday he will recommend local attorney Dale Peterson to be the next city attorney when the Woodbury Board of Mayor and Aldermen meets tonight at 7 at city hall.

Patrick said he decided to nominate Peterson because he is familiar with his (Peterson's) work from his (Patrick's) time as Clerk and Master.

The part-time position pays $2,500 a year. Patrick said he has not discussed his decision to pick Peterson for the post with any other members of the board, and that the board may decide to reject the nomination.

Patrick also said the town is not required to advertise vacant positions, although he added that in some circumstances it might be prudent to do so in order to find the best qualified person.

The agenda for tonight's meeting follows:
