Sheriff Darrell Young and Judge Susan Melton wish Officer Bill Avera goodbye.

On August 6, Court Officer Bill Avera of 9 years, retired from the Cannon County Sherriff's Department.

Officer Avera was in law enforcement for a total of 35 years, He served with the City of Woodbury Police Department for 26 of those years, and 15 of which he was Chief of Police.

The employees of Cannon County Courthouse, along with Mark Vance Cannon County Wild Life Officer, Judge Susan Melton, Sheriff Darrell Young and Cannon County Deputies celebrated with Bill, his wife Linda and granddaughter for a retirement lunch held in his honor.

Judge Melton and Sheriff Young spoke about their time serving with Bill. Cannon County would like to say a special thank you to Bill for his dedication and oil that he has done for the County and City of Woodbury,
