News from the Mountain

By CAROL GUNTER

Noticed some little piggies maybe 3 or 4 in my neighbor's lot this morning as I looked out our patio doors. They have been rooting up the ground by my privacy hedge here lately. I figure they are just in the "little porker" stage and would be a few good meals for me and especially if I were having a craving for some pork and right in our back door, this couldn't get any better than that. Bringing home the bacon without working for it does sound awfully good to me.

Thursday night, September 15th, attended the Warren County Fair. It seemed to be overflowing with so many people there and they just kept coming. Aaron Tippin and wife Thea and also their son Tom performed. They are a very talented family. Told my neighbor that was there Aubrey sure would have loved it as he and Aaron were good friends.

Cooler weather coming to the mountain this week. We're gonna hope it stays around for a while after the hot days we have been having. I don't know about you but I'm welcoming the upper seventies for highs they are predicting and the fifties for the nighttime lows. We've been waiting a while for temperatures like this haven't we? Get out by all means and enjoy the outdoors. That about sums it up as I'm going to do just that myself. I hope you don't pass up the opportunity either.

Stopped in at Glenda's (Dekalb Market) after church Sunday. Didn't see Jackie as she's been sick this week. Ella busy as usual with a lot of customers to wait on.

Got to thinking a little more about the weather as it's gonna seem more like fall so I'll have to make sure I've got an ample supply of coffee and the hazelnut creamer in the cabinet as that morning cup of coffee gets you going and warms you up on those cool mornings.

On those cold winter morning I've got to have that second cup. Really hate to see those cold mornings show up but we know they're coming.

If the little green men pay any attention to the weather forecast, they're probably stocking up on supplies too. Don't know if they might like tuna but they had better have their own stockpile of it as I don't share mine. Do you ever read the comics? I only check out Garfield as he's one more character isn't he? I cut out of the paper this funny episode of Garfield about these aliens/little green men. These aliens told Garfield they were from the planet Clarion and they had come to conquer his planet and take its lettuce as that was their primary source of nutrition and they were demanding to have it. Garfield information them sorry he didn't have any lettuce but could order them a pizza. A what they asked? Last scene aliens are back at their spaceship reporting their findings to their leader. Both aliens stomachs bulging above capacity. First alien said we're defecting. Only a big burp out of the other one. I guess we know that the aliens (if they are real) can be won over by pizzas. That goes for me too!

Charlie Mai Daniel got to be back in church on Sunday. Talked to her a few minutes to let her know she had been missed.

Farmers around the mountain taking care of the soybeans and corn this week as it's harvest time. Where did the summer go? It never fails I always ask this question at this time of the year. Probably mowing the yards so often as so much rain kept falling and taking care of the what I call pesky weeks that have no business here and there in my flower beds and other places took up my time. I was glad to be busy and getting the exercise being outside as exercise is good for all of us.

Some October birthdays to let you know about Seirra Campbell 9th, Ann Warren 11th, Barbara Vincion 28th, Jonell Bratcher 29th and this one I got out of order Bradley Campbell 27th.

Always be thankful to God each and everyday and treat others the way you want to be treated.

Keep the family of Chloe Evelyn Bogle in your prayers. Ruth Brown, Fay Pitts, Edith Miller, Denise Stanton, Carlon and Mai Nell Melton and also Charlie Mai Daniel.
