Nancy C. Walterhouse, a retired school teacher and secretary for the Director of Nursing at Stones River Hospital, died Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Woodbury Health Care Center at age 79 following an extended illness.

A resident of Woodbury, she was born in Souix City, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar U. and Cloa Rae Purcell.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Don Walterhouse of Woodbury; children Becky (Chuck) Howe of Custer, S.D., Floyd (Sandra) Walterhouse of Chattanooga, Aubrey Woods of Portland, OR and Donna Podesta of Murfreesboro. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She was a member of the Murfreesboro 7th Day Adventist Church. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the church for a Christian Broadcasting Network.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, at Woodbury Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home Thursday, February 25, with Pastors Gil Floyd and Jon Weigley officiating.

Burial will be in Amity Cemetery.

Mrs. Walterhouse was a delightful person that was a fixture at both Good Samaritan and Stones River Hospitals. She brightened the day at both locations and created many fond memories for those of us who had the good fortune to work with her!
