My Cannon County Rose

(The Best I’ve Ever Known)
There is a red rose in this world A very special, pretty girl She means so much to me you know And with this poem to you I’ll show
Her smiles’ the first thing that you see At one time it was just for me It made me feel so good inside I’d almost want to run and hide
Her eyes are yet another thing The bluest that I’ve ever seen They looked with love and tenderness I would not want anything less
There is the way she moves around No other woman I have found Can do all things that she did In time and space that she saw fit
Her looks and manners are good things But there inside is more to see The wonder that this woman is There’s nothing that she wouldn’t give
She gave to me a lot you know? I gave to her more than most know But something sure did go awry I ask myself now - why o why?
But time and space it changes things And with it better feelings bring The way they were a short time back They were so good and that’s a fact
I want you in my arms again To feel the way we did back then To whisper in your ear to say We needn’t wait another day
For you to feel what’s in my heart The beating for you again starts The feeling that I had back then It would be all for you again
To look into my eyes you’ll see The love again I hope will be For us to have it all again Just nod your head and tell me when
You are the best girl I have known And with this seed I will now sow I ask you to come back and see The good love that I know can be
You are my Cannon County Rose I ask you to realize and know That you are everything to me Come back to me and you will see
To: The best I have ever known From: The best I hope that you will know
