Murfreesboro Man Arrested After Running Into House

Running into a House in Woodbury can be an unpleasant experience, as a Murfreesboro man discovered last week.

Especially if that House is named John, as in Sgt. John House of the Woodbury Police Department.

William Scott Lewis, 2414 Hillmont Drive, Murfreesboro, was charged with possession of Schedule II drugs, simple possession of marijuana, driving on a suspended license 1st offense and possession of drug paraphernalia following an incident on Aug. 19.

According to the report Sgt. House filed, on Aug. 19, 2010 there was a BOLO put out on a white Oldsmobile cutless bearing tag #221-XTP and was approaching the city limits.

"I was stationary at the police department when I observed the vehicle pass me," House reported. "I pulled out and got behind the vehicle and it turned onto West Adams Street and made a wide turn.

"Dispatch had advised that the complaintant stated that the vehicle was weaving and crossing over the lines. I continued to follow the vehicle and it turned onto Sunny Slope Road and made another wide turn. The vehicle turned onto McFerrin Street where it turned into a driveway. I activated my blue lights and exited my vehicle as the driver exited his.

"The driver asked what was going on and I told him we had a report that he was a possible drunk driver. He stated that he had not had anything to drink that he had dropped his keys in the passenger floorboard and reached over to pick them up.

"I asked for his license, registration and insurance. The driver handed me his license that identified him as William Scott Lewis. Lewis appeared extremely nervous. I observed a metal pipe sticking out from under the driver's seat. I asked Lewis if he had taken any medication and he said no. I asked if he was prescribed any mediation and he said yes, something for inflammation of the knee, Lyrica, and a couple of others for a spider bite but had not taken any.

"I asked Lewis if there was anything illegal in his vehicle and he replied 'no sir.' I asked if I could take a quick look and he replied 'actually there shouldn't be any reason to uh.' I asked if he had anything illegal or weapons on his person and he relied no.

"I asked him to put the the items in his hand on the car and to put his hands on the car while I patted him down and he reached into his left front pant pocket and he was told to put his hand back on the car. I could observe a pill bottle in his left front pocket and Lewis stated, 'I have an empty medication bottle but there's nothing in there.'

"I reached in and removed the bottle and handed it to Officer (Chris) Brown and asked him to check what was in the bottle and he could look in my Drug ID Bible. Officer Brown asked Lewis what kind of pills were in the Lortab bottle and Lewis replied for 'for pain medication.' Officer Brown asked again what kind of pills and he replied for 'pain medication.'

Officer Brown then stated the pills were Morphine. I asked Lewis if he had a prescription for Morphine and he stated 'I don't take Morphine. I have a prescription for all of my medications that I take.'

"I asked Lewis if a person had a legal prescription for a medication why would they keep it in a cigarette cellophane wrapper. Lewis stated 'I just found that on the floorboard.' I asked if that was what he dropped in the floorboard and he replied 'no I dropped my keys.' "

Sgt. House noted in his report that when Lewis exited his vehicle his keys were clipped to his belt.

Lewis was placed under arrest for possession of a Schedule II controlled substance. He was cuffed and placed in the back of the patrol car.

A search of Lewis' vehicle produced a used syringe in the console along with a pill bottle that had Soma, Lortab, and two more MS Contins (Morphine). There was a baggie of marijuana and a pack of rolling papers stuck under the back seat.

Lewis was transported to the Cannon County Jail were he was given a field sobriety test which he completed. A check of the status of his driver's license revealed that it was suspended. A check of Lewis' cellphone showed some text messages about selling pills and the phone was confiscated as evidence. Lewis was issued a receipt for the phone and his license.
