Morse Announces Second Grant For County Fire Departments



Faye Morse, Director of the Cannon County Office of Emergency Management and Chief of the Cannon County Fire Department received notification today she has received another grant award in the amount of $200,000.00. This is her second grant award in one week totaling approximately $340,000.00.

Senator Lamar Alexander expressed his congratulations in his announcement of this $200,000.00 award. Mrs. Morse submitted this grant on behalf of the Cannon County Fire Department through the FEMA/Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program. The grant, “AFG Vehicle Acquisition”, will provide funding for the purchase of a new Water Tender (tanker) that is NFPA 1901 compliant (National Fire Protection Association Codes and Standards) and the necessary equipment needs to conform to national standards. The tender will be used in emergency conditions for transportation of water, personnel and equipment and will support the suppression of fires and used in the mitigation of other hazardous situations.

On March 10th, Faye Morse received notice her grant for $136,040.00 to FEMA/Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighter Grant for Operations and Safety was funded.

The AFG awards will provide funding to our volunteer fire departments for enhancement in training. Provide funding for the purchase of personal protective equipment for respiratory protection; protection while taking the appropriate actions for life, safety and property, in your time of need, for your emergency. The vehicle funding will provide a transport for water and equipment in fire suppression and other hazardous situations. These grants not only support the safety and well being of the volunteers, but also the citizens of Cannon County.
