Mom charged after taking child to school

The mother of a Westside School student was arrested after taking her child to school late.
School Resource Officer (SRO) Tommie Barker told Sgt. Tommy Miller that he had received a call from a Westside teacher stating a parent had called stating that she was bringing her child to school and that they were late. Barker told Miller that the child's grandmother had called too and stated the mother was possibly under the influence of drugs and that her license was suspended.
Sgt. Miller then proceeded to the school where he stopped a Ford Explorer driven by the mother in question who confirmed that she was driving without a license. A check of her identification revealed that the woman's license was suspected and that she had been charged two prior times for driving on a revoked license.
The woman had two bottles of legend drugs, belonging to an ex-boyfriend, in her possession.
She was taken into custody and charged with driving on a suspended license, third offense and two counts of possession of legend drugs. Her name is being withheld for protection of her child.

Joyriding, DUI
Tory Bryant was stopped on South McCrary Street by Deputy Michael Hainey, who was headed to the Co-Op for refueling.
Deputy Hainey said a sedan suddenly appeared behind him in the vicinity of Rogers Street. Hainey said the vehicle was following much too closely.
"I pulled to the right side of the street and allowed the vehicle to get around me, then activated my emergency lights and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle began to slow down somewhat but failed to pull over for several seconds, causing me to activate my siren twice before finally stopping at the intersection of Lester and Park Streets," Hainey reported.
The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Bryant, was "very animated, nervous and excited," said the deputy, adding that he saw an empty bottle of tequila sitting in the console area.
"As I attempted to explain to Mr. Bryant the basis for my traffic stop, he suddenly spit a peppermint out of his mouth onto the roadway and rapidly began explaining he was 'lost in Woodbury' and had been 'driving around' for over an hour," Hainey said.
Bryant continued to babble, saying his "girlfriend" had become inebriated and had asked him to pick up some items at the Quick Shop before she passed it, he said.
Hainey asked Bryant if he had been consuming any alcoholic beverages that evening and "he adamantly stated that he had not and that he was the designated driver for the evening. Mr. Bryant further elaborated that he had known his girlfriend for "almost two years," but that they had been dating for "only a couple of weeks."
The deputy then ran Bryant's drivers license and checked for warrants. Both checks were clear, but the registration on the vehicle was a different issue.
The suspect "produced two female purses, neither of which belonged to him, and stated that the paperwork 'might be in here somewhere,'" Hainey said.
At this point, Bryant had not displayed any noticeable indications that he was inebriated. However, that was soon to change with officers administering field sobriety tests to him. He was then transported to the emergency room where he refused to submit a blood sample.
While at the ER, the owner of the car arrived and gave officers a statement that Bryant had taken her car without consent. Bryant was charged with DUI, implied consent and joyriding.
